In my opinion CM 01-02 was the best game SI produced, however FM08 rocks too and obviously it has far more features.

But it has been stated by many FM gamers than there is not as much fun or joy in the FM series compared to CM 01-02.

So I downloaded a September 2007 database update for CM 01-02 and started a game with my beloved Leeds.

I also then started a game with Leeds in FM 08 and decided that I would keep the players I had and try and use the same formation and tactics that Leeds use in real life.

Now I know the options are different in both games but I was astonished at the results.

10 games in I had won 7 drawn 1 and lost 2 in CM 01-02 but in FM 08 I had won 2 drawn 3 and lost 5.

I kept going till January where eventually, even with my -15 point deduction I got to be top of the table in CM 01-02, a fantastic achievement and Kandol & Beckford were the leading scorers.

In February I got sacked in FM 08 and ended my little experiment.

Needless to say I have not played FM08 since and I am now in my 4th season with Leeds in CM 01-02 and utterly loving it.

I simply dont understand how a game made in 2007 is less realstic, less fun to play, less accurate than a game the same company produced 6 years previous.

As a lover of all FM games I really feel SI are losing it, heck CM08 is ot that bad...

Thoughts?
I appreciate your thoughts but don't really get your point... Mate, you gotta understand the engine is totally different. What makes you think FM 2008 is less realistic? I mean, I just don't understand the logic... Leeds is Leeds, 2 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats is a fair result, isn't it? </BLOCKQUOTE>

I think you fail to see the point.

Which of the 2 games is more accuratekly portraying real life?

2 wins 3 draws and 5 defeats in Fm08?

Dont think so.....check the League One table mate. </BLOCKQUOTE>

You expected instant results and comparison to a real life professional manager the very first time you played the game? Now who's being unrealistic?

All you're proving is that CM01-02 was easier (or that you're so used to it that you know exactly what it takes to win under that engine).

I think it just comes down to the fact that the tactical side was so much simpler in CM01/02.

All you needed to do was set your team instructions to attacking and short passing and you could pretty much be successful.

That's why I find the newer games a lot more realistic. The tactics are so much more in-depth and there are now so may more things to take into consideration than just the tactics themselves. I'll personally never go back to an older version but each to their own.
Agreed in the simplicity of CM but you state that is why newer games are more realstic.

Well in this case it is not as CM 01-02 is portaying a much more realistic Leeds team than FM08 is. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Not really. All it's proved is that CM 01-02 is easier. If you left Dennis Wise in charge of Leeds and either holidayed or played as a completely different team in a completely different league then you'd be able to comment on how realistic they are.

As soon as you take over a team all comparisons to real life for that team go out the window. Unless you compare it to what would happen if you took over as Leeds manager in real life.

AND what it proves is that CM01-02 actual has more "realism" in it that FM08 and is more fun.

You are not grasping that I am playing the same formations and tactics in both ames to prove the point, just because I have played CM 01-02 more doesnt mean a thing.

I know. It's just fun to make people try to justify their existence on an internet forum, as if anyone really cares

Again, if you want to see which of the two games is portraying the more realistic Leeds team then you have to holiday for the season, or holiday until todays date, and compare Leeds position, points, goals etc to real life. This is the only way you'll be able to say that '08 is unrealistic in terms of Leeds performances.

What you're doing really does only prove that CM 01-02 is easier and less in-depth than FM08. That may mean it's more fun for some, less fun for other but realism does not come into it at all in terms of this experiment.

Your point is irrelevant. There are countless other people who have successfully gained promotion with Leeds on FM08. So all it means is no two games will ever play out the same. You failed as a manager on FM08, others have succeeded, blame yourself, not the game.

Yup I failed using the same formation and tactics as Leeds do in real life.......yet it is successful in CM01-02, much like real life.

Hmmmmmm
