I have only played until December but I keep noticing that there are jobs available on the jobs screen that I wasn't aware of. At no point did it come up as a news item that so and so has been sacked as manager of whoever. Is this right? I prefer to know what jobs are available as and when they are than not to know at all

i have noticed this. barca and inter have sacked and appointed new managers with out me noticing but i would have applied if id known!

You don't get alerted to news items that don't affect your club. So is it not entirely possible that you just missed the announcements that they'd sacked their manager and brought in a new one?

If you are looking for a new job or a change then you do have the job centre you could keep checking,Sometimes when leagues you are running ditch there managers there will be a message..but not always
