For some reason on FM08, when selecting players on youth contracts to release on a free transfer, I am then told I will have to pay compensation.
Why is this, as i belive on FM07 they would just be released on a free and no cpompensation would be required.
If they are on a contract (and most of them are) then you will be liable for compensation. Works is most employment situations, football is no different.
Option is let their contract expire and then release them.

Why do I have to pay compensation to players on youth contracts if I want to release on a free? Post #5
Unfortunately though for Youth contract players, you do not get the option to offer mutual termination.
Therefore you have to offer compensation, which as I am playing in conference south would not be an option, due to limited funds.
What I can't understand is that their contact states 2/3 years, but then on the contract offer screen, it says their on a rolling contract.
If they are on rolling contracts, cant understand why compensation wouldnt be just for the rest of that month?

Sometimes I wonder the same thing, but if it's designed like this in game, I believe it must be how it works in real life. I do not believe SI would get this simple stuff wrong.

Well i belive that in FM07, you could release youth contract players on a free transfer, without any compensation.
Now in FM08, it appears you cannot.
Just seems muuch harder, in order to trim your squad down of a significant number of youth contract players, that eat up vital wage resources at a Lower League club?
