What 'Classic' football management games did you play?
I remember spending hours on the original 8-bit Football Manager 1 & 2....
... eventually you'd invariably end up with a team consisting entirely of British internationals - Fenwick, Francis, Waddle, Hoddle....
I remember another 8-bit game, called 'European Superleague' or something, where the central screen was a view of the manager's office from behind a desk. There was a bottle on the desk you'd click on when you wanted to advance time
The cream of the 8-bit games for me was Tracksuit Manager. You took over an international side who had been underachieving (sounds familiar), and would have a full international pool of real players to choose from .. decent match engine too, text-based and a worthy precursor to CM for me.
On the 16-bits, I remember being lukewarm about Premier Manager - the irony being that, despite it's name, you were forced to start with a conference side

I remember spending months on an Amiga coverdisk demo of Sensible World Of Soccer, actually getting the full game a year after in 1995. There was also a brief flirtation with a coverdisk demo of Tactical Manager Italia, that was my first taste of managing without seeing a pitch and reading commentary.
Then in 1996, I got Player Manager 2 for the Amiga, and I loved it. I do remember how the first night I played it how I was SO frustrated at how many things I had to manage, I almost gave it up. I wasn't used to that level of detail - wages, contracts, things like that.
But I stuck with that until 2000 (trying Premier Manager 3 on the Playstation and Player Manager 2000 on the PC along the way), when I bought CM00/01 (I've still got it, along with the free car sticker in the case) and haven't looked back. Since then I've got every edition since, and also some budget versions of the older CM editions - haven't got 'round to playing them yet though. FM's keeping me from them.

Student Boy, a man after my own heart, i played all of those as well! the cream of the crop was Football Director II, played for hours, in the end though you just ended up with all 9i players and battered everyone

I used to play a game on the Amiga. It was a football management sim, and the game itself just had text commentary, but when you scored sound played and it sounded like 'Goal, Lee Chapman'.
For the love of god I can't remember what the game was called. It would have been about 1992 ish.
