I've just resigned from being manager of Gimnastic in the Spanish 2nd division and thought that there needs to be more reaction to a resignation. The only thing that happened was that I got a news item saying I'd resigned.
I think in future versions, there should be reasons to choose from for your resignation:
Personnal problems (basically you can't be arsed anymore and need an excuse)
Loss of respect of players (when they say they've lost confidence in you)
Lack of support from board (if they don't give you what you want)
Wants some time away from football (smells a better job on the horizon)
Funilly enough, earlier today I resigned from a job for exactly that reason (the one in brackets) and wanted to see if there was a cool message from the board thanking me for what I had done (there wasn't, although interestingly there was no speculation as to who my relacement was (there was actually a message saying there was no speculation)).
Although when I denied interest in the NEC job, the report said that I wasn't ready to return to football just yet, and that NEC wasn't the type of position I was looking for.
I took up my new job at Man City about a week later.
Another reason could be You feel you've let te club down (when you know you've not been up to the task).
Agreed. Opinions from the board/fans etc only go one way and I would love to have an oppertunity for a 'knife in the back' or thanks for my time at a club after resignation.
As I have not left my current club (Wolves, now in the Premiership doing well in 2011) yet in this game, i'm surprised to find out this has not been implemented in FM08.
I want to be able to give a reason when I decide to leave the club. Like now I would like to resign from my job but it wouldn't feel satisfying to do so because I can't tell my chairman he is a complete dumbass and should consider another career if he really likes the club as much as he claims.
Another one could be that 'you've taken the club as far as they can go' or 'need a new challange'. These reasons could be used for not signing a new contract if offered one too.
I agree with the suggested reasons. Considering how many people complain about chairman interactin there should maybe be an option that says something like: Chairman interference in the squad makes it impossible to progress.
