I have found a working concept I think. I try and get midtable premiere clubs and can usually scrape a couple together. If you want to go abroad and play friendlies make sure their real season hasn't started yet. If you don't care what you play and such have the ass man do it for you.
I gave real Madrid and Barcelona 20k euro (rejected friendly otherwise) as a spanish 2nd and 3rd division team (got promoted in some way ) and i got 300-375k per game and i got 6 friendly games. Instead of getting 100-120k for middle teams get the topp teams some money and you will benefit greatly.

You can arrange the friendlies a few weeks before the new season starts.
This way the opposition doesn't have a fixture list yet, and are much more willing to accept them.
Just check the current season to look when their competition started, this way you are more sure they will not cancel it later.
Offer them some money when you want to play home, most clubs only come when you offer them some money (usually between 5-20k).
When playing away, never offer them anything.
I did a cup called the Sunderland cup lol it was me sunderland obviously lol my reserves my U18s and the local nissan factory's pub team lol they wouldn't accept for anything less than 50k!!! lol that was nearly double their value for a friendly money grabbin sods lol.
