Rep Power: 0 | Jaycar Yes he had FWR often, he's too good for the conference, but his attributes haven't increased since we got promoted. Wakers
I would suggest doing a few things, it looks like you're trying to hard to make things work, and sometimes when we do this we just dump players into any tactic hoping to get a run going, I know I've done that myself many times.
May I suggest several things. Decide on which tactic to use, DemonsEyE is a decent tactic, defensively solid but it needs a good central AMC who has good off the ball skills, and the ability to finish, strength, passing and decisions are vital. When I used a player for this position in the conference, he was miles better than most and completely ruled that position and drove the team forward.
On the flanks you will definitely not be looking for wingers. More like MCs who can tackle and pass. They have to be hardworking, and be good ball winners, brave in the challenge and should be able to either run or be strong enough to hold on to the ball. Decisions, passing, positioning, tackling. Attributes you'll normally see in a DMC.
The central player if he has those same qualities and the ability to run forward (OTB) then he will be a very dangerous players
Between the two tactics the RYMagyars and the v2, there are fundamental differences. Whilst the former has one touch passing, its not an easy formation to use on wet pitches and on muddy pitches. I had to abandon that formation with cambridge as passing became a problem on muddy terrain. I switched the other which has short passing but it still performs better.
The former is also a tactic that has a quick tempo, the latter a slower tempo.
The formation needs again a hardworking trio. My formations all need bravery, determination and hardwork.
I wouldn't give up, but I would at least concentrate on ONE formation first. Swede The fixture congestion is a nightmare and a fix is needed for player conditioning, I'm having a torrid time of keeping players fit. LordDjm Yes mine is patched.

Rep Power: 0 | Seeing that I achieved the goal of getting cambridge promoted...and erm since they have been in L2 they have already knocked out Swansea and Cardiff from the League Cup...the time has finally come for me to move off from Cambridge, as I achieved the stated goal at the start which was promotion, and actually start a proper game for myself
Doesn't mean there won't be any more updates, just that the Cambridge story has to end, since it was just meant to illustrate how to manage an LLM side.
To reiterate managing an LLM side is a challenge for anyone new to the game, areas you need to focus on are:
1. Identifying new talent...a must and if you're really good at identifying people you should be successful at the game
2. Managing your expectations - A good start is very important, so its better to get draws and wins then getting defeated. So don't be too overambititous
3. Keep things simple: A split mentality system is by far the best way of playing in my book. Keep the defenders on individual mentalities and the rest on team
4. Defending should be a team job, but don't overexpose yourself too much by closing down too heavily, if you are playing with a deep dline that is suicidal.
When playing deep defensive football, make sure midfielders close down in their own half...not all over the pitch. Strikers can close down outside.
5. Mentality and defensive line are intricately linked. A high mentality and a high defensive line can be used, yes, its a form of attacking football, but its not a form I'd advise for nonleague sides.
The best way for nonleague sides to play is to play a normal mentality with normal closing down in midfield and low closing down at the back. That allows your team to hold its shape. Chasing the ball around is such a bad idea its tantamount to signing your own death warrant. Conference sides have a fixture list thats frightful, 4 games in a week. If you play a high pressing game, you invite injury. So choose which games to approach with such an attacking mentality.
6. Staff and training, do your best to secure at least a specialised coach in GK, Fitness and Defending. Get one more coach for the rest. That's 4 coaches.
7. And please look for a good parent club..the boost in finances and the players they give you is going to be as good as a "cheat".
The reason why I've stopped this is because its not true to the LLM tradition. I'm now heading even deeper to sides who get promoted to the conference to pick up a challenge that's neigh on impossible.
Enjoy yourselves I'll focus my attention more on the FFM thread the "basics of tactic making - where the next few things I will discuss is the way to set up defending, midfield and attacking.
Hope you found the Cambridge story entertaining...their first few results in the league case anyone was interested at least those that I can remember offhand.
Brentford 2 - 4 Cambridge
Torquay 3 - 4 Cambridge
Swansea 0 - 1 Cambridge (LC)
1-1 can't remember
Cambridge 1 - 0 Port Vale
Cambridge 2 - 1 Swansea (LC)
Feel free to ask me any further questions on LLM football here on in the other thread..

Another question rash, in regards to gary stopforth, he plays a number of positions for you mainly the AMC but he has a very low off the ball attribute. You singled out that attribute to be important for that position but yet he's still scoring you goals?

good point as I wondered about that myself. His performances were good, but not fantastic. He was able to play the killer pass but not able to run into space as often as I would have liked.
Another player was put in that position and it turned out to be Kyle Reid a player who has OTB of 12 and it was Reid in the position that allowed me to take games to teams like Cardiff and swansea.
I had to drop Stopforth to an MC position in midfield to help anchor them as he wasn't good enough. Stopforth did play blinders, but I noticed that he only did that when the team as a whole had parked themselves in the opponents half.
Whenever the ball was in midfield, he'd stroke the ball around for passes. In the conference I seriously think Stopforth is too good.

I have gone to maybe max...8. I hate playing deep..its not in my nature to be defensive..which explains why I struggle to explain to people how to make a defensive counterattacking tactic. I can handle possession or attacking tactics.

Rashidi I hope you can answer this question. I hope you will agree me that your formation shape has an big effect on how attacking/defensive you are. So If I want to play an nice attacking short passing game, what formation would be advisable? I was thinking a 4-5-1 or 4-1-2-1-2 diamond?
