I tried it away at Liverpool, I sacrificed one striker for a Defender with good marking and told him to mark Torres, I also had my right DC man marking him. It worked a treat and Torres got a 5 average rating!

Has anyone tried experimenting with this to cancel the threat of key players?

I did it with my full back and wingers marking ronaldo.(man utd) They did such a good job Man utd had to switch him to the other wing. So i set both sides to double up on the wingers. I have to say it certainly made for a quiet game from ronaldo.

I man-marked the whole Liverpool team(minus the DC's) and it worked a treat for an hour when Torres and Gerrard got subbed with 5 ratings.

However I then had to watch 10 minutes of Liverpool dominating as they had altered positions and it wouldnt update the man-marking instructions. Finally updated my tactics when Liverpool equalised.

I can see why you cant make subs until there is a break in play in your favour but surely you shout on updated instructions while the game is in play - 10 minutes to get the message on that I didnt want my DL man-marking their DR seems a bit excessive!

Conclusion, man-marking works a treat but is a waste of time in the late game with the way the ai changes formations

I miss the way on 01/02 you could use specific man marking yet the game was aware that you meant the opposite guy in the formation.

On 07 it just becomes tedious to keep changing because as soon as the AI recognises you are using it starts swopping strikers, wingers, central midfielders. And when they have wingers who can play as strikers and vice versa it becomes a nightmare. That damn AI is a slippery bugger

To answer your question in 07 it always seemed like the AI strikers would have an outstanding match if I specifically man marked them. I tried at first on 08 but found the same thing. Although it could just be a combination of my paranoia and coincidence. Or it could have been my players were crap.

I reckon when you had 2 defenders marking Torres you must also have had the closing down at the perfect setting as I have seen 2 cb backing off to mark a striker while the midfielder strolls casually towards the box.

But if others have had success with it it probably points more to the fact that everything else has to be perfectly set for it to work effectively. How you do that I haven't a clue. Maybe one of the experts can throw their 2 cents in.
