It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Diamond attack tactic

Im currently into my 3rd season as newcastle and i havebeen using this tactic since my 2nd season and have performed really well. Came 3rd in the leaugue won the uefa cup and also fa cup so for newcastle this was a great achievement.
Im currently 20 games into my 3rd season and im top of the premiership won my group in champs leauge and i have rarely switched my tactic around at all. The only changes i ever make is if i go a couple of goals up i drop my attacking mid back and take away is farrow. I have not tried this tactic with anyone else and i feel it might only be suited to the current players i have and i know the players i have are pretty good. Made alot of cash selling players on and o fee i have bought pretty well. Anyway i will post up some screen shots i started with a 4-3-3 attacking and then moulded it into the formation you will see and none of my players have individual tactics all just on the team tactics. All feedback will be greatly appreciated.[IMG] [/IMG]

Just out of curiousity, who is your playmaker?

I'm using similar type of diamond formation right now with MK Dons at Championship ( no side arrows though) and that's why I'm curious.

Also what kinda individual instructions your defensive midfield has? I'm not sure if I should give mine tight marking or not and I'm kinda confused what would be best settings him.

fernandez is my playmaker
and both my defensive midfielder and attacking are on the same instructions same as the team and i have forward runs often and through balls often. I seem to have a bit of a form lull around Xmas time though then pick up again towards the end of January if i switch my team around too much though i start losing rather than just drawing.

Fernandez is also my target man to feet though as he is pretty awsome at everything my best player so i think its wise everythinggoes through him just no good when he is injured.

I use something similar, but I am having a bad time defensively though. I have played 8, scored 18, let in 19....
Given
Beye Taylor Cacapa Enrique
Geremi
Milner N'Zogbia
Piatti
Martins Owen

Both wingers have arrows to the AMC position
Both Strikers have arrows to the sides
AMC has forward running arrow

Play with slow tempo, attacking minded, short passes. Defensive line is quite deep, and heavy on the closing down.
I have them crossing rarely, and using through balls. But I still need some help.
I need to improve the defensive side - I have won 50% of games - lost the other 50% - not drawn yet.

I am looking to make this interchangeable in attack by moving my wingers to aide my AMC, in certain games. This will, hopefully, be helped by the incoming of some players - but it would look something similar to:
Geremi

Emre Piatti N'Zogbia
Martins Owen

With all three AMC firing forward.
And for more defensive games it would change to:
Butt Geremi
Milner N'Zogbia

Martins Owen
With the wingers having arrows pointing to the ST position.

Any help on improving the instructions is greatly appreciated (tactics have never been my strong point).

my attempted diagrams above did not work so well....

Milner and Zog are playing out on the wings in the above examples.

if you try an have a barrow on both your rb and lb that will tighten things up and also have geremi v defensive. That should tighten things up also have the defenders playing direct to long so they get rid of the ball. Have tight marking ticked as well see how that goes.

Have to say that my players are really starting to bed in, and I am putting in some good wins - just beat liverpool at anfield 2-8 - so very happy.

Took into account the defensive changes, some improvement but not a huge amount....although I did manage to keep a couple of clean sheets.

My tactic, whilst a little open at the back, is great for scoring goals - scored 52 in 20 games - I figure that is a good return.

------------Given--------------
Faye---Cacapa---Taylor---Enrique
-----------Geremi--------------
Milner------------------N´Zogbia
-----------Piatti-------------
-------Owen------Martins-------

And as described earlier.
