It is greyed out and I am using the default skin.

If you are talking about individual instructions, you have to click the box next to the instruction.

I think that is what you talking about.

As you can see it is greyed out and when I select "set to <position>" it doesn't work..

I have the new patch by the way

Have you actually selected a player to give the instructions to?

I suspect not as usually when I do it the player is highlighted and in your screenshot there is no highlighted player.

Let's say that you want to highlight the Toure, then click once between little arrow on the left and mark Wnt in Toure line.
