My very first post on this glorious site and it is a rather embarrassing one. I have been playing CM/FM games for years and years and have been thoroughly enthralled by each installment, however as each new game has been released I have found myself drifting away from the fundementals of this game. The tactical setup. Now I can hear you groaning, "a schoolboy error" as I type. But as I have grown up I have found less and less time to dedicate to my game time than I used to, I have persisted with lesser tactics just to get the game to progress at a speed that satisfies my hunger for progress. So with the new game I thought time for a change.
I am Man Utd and it is mid Nov, I have signed Klass-Jan Huntelaar for £10m to balance my four striker system and now I need to sit down and take real control. Any hints and tips on Tactics, Formations, Player selections etc are greatly appreciated. I'm not looking for a quick fix because thats not realistic, but a little aid and guidence.
Thank you

DC,
I've played as Man Utd and don't mess around with tactics to much.
I take the standard 4-4-2 tactic and give both wingers straight line forward arrows to in line with the strikers.
For both wingers, I change their own mentality to the first notch of attacking, and change their own creativity forward two notches.
I set the team instructions to counter attack, move the attacking mentality forward to notches.
I also set the target man supply to into feet - with Rooney, Tevez and in your case KJH this should work.
The only other thing is to take 2 or 3 minutes to set up the corners, free kicks, penalties priorities.
Good luck.

Oh and another thing DC, welcome to the forum!
If you are stuck with Man U, then post in the official Man U topic as you'll get more and quicker replies.

To be honest with you , the best way to imerse your self into FM is to Lower League, and i dont mean the pretencious rules they set out in the forums. ( obviously dont cheat but their LLM setup is very hypocritical and a bit like a bunch of goths arguing over who is most goth )
Anyways, select the BSN or BSS and find a team name you fancy.
With this form of management every cup game and every U21 player means something to you.
With the likes of Man Utd your evidently throwing round 1m like its chump change.
In the LL every 1k is meaningfull and you actually have to balance your bank as well as succeed in the game.
Seriously it will change the way you play, after you have gained promotion and been succesfull with some podunk team you will realise how pointless it is to play with a big team.

I know what you mean it'll take me back to playing as Doncaster Rovers when I was 17, maybe that is the way forward for me. Obviously my players will be more in tune with an unknown manager if they themselves are deemed to be unknown

Welcome to the forums mate, my advice would be keep it simple at first, there are some fantastic discussions of tactics and systems in the tactic and training forums but if you dive right in at the deep end it can be a little overwhelming to say the least. As Dudley said, stick to a basic formation and tweak it a little, don't be afraid of messing about, it'd the best way to learn. One bit of advice i'd give is keep goal replays on, i know a lot of people who automatically turn them off but i find it's much easier to see where my formation is falling foul or of course whats working at the other end when seen a 2nd time around. Anyway GL mate and don't be a stranger here, we learn from each other after all!

I have started a new game as an uemployed manager, got to mid august and aws declaring interest in a few jobs, got beat to Carlisle by Joe Royal, and eventually Mick Mcarthy was sacked as Wolves Manager and was asked to fill the breach, I had just had a brief look around the squad and tactics when I had to leave it due to a hungry baby (mine!) any tips on their squad would be nice. Not really looking for transfer tips yet as I used to be quite the scout myself and would like to see if I've still got it.
