You have ask a basic question but it takes practice and understanding of Photoshop CS to accomplish your question.

Go to publicity for a paying site is not tolerated and check out this site.

It costs $99.00 a year but the information you get from it will save you months of frustration.

they have learning video clips that can help you with your quesiton and other questions.

I am new to photoshop Cs and I asked the very same question.

With the help of photoshopuser.com and a lot of trial and error I can now separate the subject from the background relatively well all thanks to photoshopuser.com.

It is well worth the investment.

Good luck, witagoo

Start by clicking on the logo at the top of the page, and then do all of Mark's tutorials. Then do them all again. 8))

(spam?) Why pay $99.00 if you can get all that information for free \:]

Just look at Mark's site; dozens of useful tutorials and there are many people like him who do this for free (web sites, forums, newsgroups, etc).
Lots of stuff is out there, but some people never take the time to figure out how to find it. It's important that you learn to use a search engine and I mean... the proper way. If you use Google, look at the help that comes with Google, it contains some very useful tips. My opinion is that the majority of the internet users never read the help that comes with search engines, which I consider the most important help you should read before you start browsing!

Have you ever searched newsgroups? Google groups is something that is really underestimated by lots of people. Google groups is a large collection of newsgroup articles (some 20 years old) and contains very useful information. Sometimes newsgroup articles can lead you to articles on the web that you couldn't find with a search engine.

All I'm trying to say is; there is so much out there, it's just unbelievable, especially for software and above all a program like Photoshop! Paying $99.00 for a web site is an absolute waste if you ask me.

If you do want to spend some money; buy 2 or 3 of the best Photoshop books.
I can come up with the titles of 3 great beginner books that cost you less than $99.00 at Amazon.

And Kit, don't be embarrassed to ask any question you might have. I think this board knows pretty well how to handle people who think they need to make fun of others, just because they ask a simple question.

Hi Kit, as long as you have a bash then ask then there is no need to be embarassed.

The tutorial section section here at PSG will save you that $99.

Spend it on decent specialist subject Photoshop books at a later date, but learn the basics first to find out which way you want to go with Photoshop.

And the free PSG consultancy bureau can save you even more. :B

Cheers, Al.
