Default Help with curved navigation

Hi

I'm quite new to photoshop and am struggling to create my web graphics.
Basically I have got an elongated ellipse which I want to gradient, then I want to split this into navigation buttons.
Can anyone help me, I've searched everywhere trying to find how to do it but can't find anything although there are loads of sites with similar on! Attached is one example I've found
Thanks in advance
Lbob

Default Help with curved navigation

Make a layer and place your horizontal lines on it.
Make another layer and create an oval for the outside
Make a 3rd layer and create the oval for the inside
Move the two ovals until you see the look you like
Merge the three layers, remove all unneeded lines with the lasso tool, quick mask or eraser.
Create slices as needed/desired.

It's called visual deconstruction. Break an image down to the simplest forms you can make, then put them back together. There won't be tutorials for much of what you want to do, but if you can learn to see how an effect is done, you won't need them...

Variety is the spice of life.

You can also use the Pen tool to create the curved shape lines, then fill the path -- after drawing the path, with the Pen tool selected, right-click the canvas and choose "Fill Path".

NOTE: when using the Pen tool here, make sure that the "Paths" option is selected in the Options Bar for the tool. (located on the far left of the Bar [2nd icon])

The Line tool is then used on a new layer to create the horizontal lines. Turn OFF the Anti-Aliasing for the tool when drawing straight lines. Otherwise your lines will be a bit fuzzy.

NOTE: as you did for the Path tool, make sure that when using the Line tool, the "Fill Pixels" options is selected in the Options Bar. (also located on the left [3rd icon]).
