Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Question for the Gurus 5x5 or 6x6

okay so I always thought the basic premise for tactics was 5 man defence and a 5 man attack.

However a while back I read a post by Cleon which said a 6x6 can be a pain in the arse to set up.

This got me thinking if that is possible surely it would be a great approach.

So how do you set up a 6x6? Is it possible? Has anyone had success creating one?

I used to play with something simmilar and with a proper use of arrows and mentality it can be done but those att/def players nedd to have great physical attributes.

Well in 442 terms a 6x6 would mean that more less entire midfield is attacking along with the strikers bar one midfielder who would be exactly classed as a defensive midfielder. His instructions would be in between. It is very hard to set this up because you need to balance your side, in that it creates a gap between your midfield and defense, so one would require fast defenders in order to push the def line up to counter this. etc.......

The only way to do it well is through full-back settings. In a 4-4-2, you then have the wingers, forwards, MCa and one FB attacking at any one time. The MCd sits in front of the back two to cover the space the full-back leaves as he joins the attack.

Wide, forward-runs often for FBs, focus down flanks. You do need a good team to do it effectively though.

Depending on your mentality settings...you can actually do this right now with the engine which is really good.

You can set it up such that you have as many as 8 attacking when you have possession, and 8 defending when you lose possession.

It doesn't mean that all 8 will drop back and defend all the time, if your mentality is set up right you can have 8 men drop back in your own half to defend. With the overlapping fullback so easy to deploy, you can have 8 attacking simply because of this feature.

In FM 07, getting 5x5 was easy, and sometimes you could get 6x6, now though we have 8x8!
