My defensive problems seem to be that a group of my players all go to close down an attacker, leaving loads of players unmarked for that guy to pass to.

I've got my MCd to close down on 9 (just below middle) my MCa to close down on 14, and my wingers to close down on 12. My FBs are on closing down 7 and my DCs closing down 5.

(I'm playing a 4-4-2 with DL 12 home/10 away)

I do it like so:

FB = 10-12
CB = 8 (Tight marking)
ML/MR = 12
MCd = 10-12
MCa = 12-14

Seems to work OK gor me.

try reducing your closing downs in midfield..to ownhalf..for one of the mcs you could also reduce to own area
