Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default tempo and possession

i've found that my players tend to hold on to the ball for ages, almost as though they're thinking of what to do next, i've noticed this at premiership and blue square teams, with just about all players doing it even though none of them have hold up ball ticked

i have to up the tempo almost to its maximum value to get any kind of fluidity to my play

has anyone else noticed this or could it be my tactics?

It could be a number of things. Passing instructions, creative freedom settings, individual technique and first touch. You need to be more speific and provide more in the way of background info if anyone is supposed to be able to provide a "fix". Tempo will most certainly affect this though.

i play as spurs on my premiership go and chippenham town in my blue square south go

both teams play with the lowest setting for direct passing, and the lowest setting for quick tempo so i'm already asking both teams to play with a quick tempo yet all the players at both teams seem to hold on to the ball for too long

all of my players at chippenham have low creative freedom, and only one or two at spurs have a much creative freedom, i would assume that players with low creative freedom would carry out the instructions they've been given and have no need to hold on the ball

i considered the fact that what i might be witnessing was due to individual player differences such as technique and first touch, but as i said, i've seen this happen with my spurs team as well which puzzled me because you'd think players of that quality would have the technique and the first touch, i've even seen berbatov do it

neither of my teams play with counter attack ticked also
