Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default run onto ball/ball played to feet

hi

i'm currently using zlatan ibrahimovic as my targetplayer but i'm not quite sure if i should use run onto ball or have ball played to his feet. has anyone had experience with him, if so i would be very happy if you'd tell me.
by the way, i use a 4-3-1-2 formation if that makes any differense...

oh, and another thing. does run onto ball mean that he will come deep to meet the ball or does it mean that he will run behind the defenceline to recieve a long ball... thanks

thanks in advance

I'm not genoious myself either, but if I had Zlatan in my team I'd set it "mixed" knowing he is quick, technical AND good in air. So he could be played it to head, feet and run to it depending what's best for situation.

I was under impression 'run to ball' just generally makes your players try to pass pall to empty space for your target man.

My impression is as follows:

RUN ONTO FEET -- the receiver makes a forward run and the passer boots it into the empty space in front of him. If he's fast enough he'll catch it and do something interesting with it. But if your receiver isn't fast or the defenders are faster, you'll just lose possession a lot.

PLAYED TO FEET -- the receiver stands with his back to the goal (not on forward run) and the ball is passed to him. He has to be strong and/or brave enough to hold of a defender who is likely to be all over him. He also needs good first touch or else it's likely to get knocked away from him. But this is a regular pass and he doesn't have to be fast enough to outchase the ball.
