I have a Mac OSX. I have been using Photoshop less than a month, I need some help. I was using my some filters like Render, Texture, & others. Now they arent there anymore. I have it on 8 bit RGB color. I have tried to Reinstall the whole Program. i still have some filters like Blur, Stylize, and some others but not near as many as I had. Any suggestions On hoe yo get them bAck?

I'm assuming that the filters are greyed out in the menu when you try to access them.....

From the main menu, make sure that the Image > Mode > ? is set to RGB. Not Index or Lab. Most filters are only suitable for working in RGB mode.

Hope this sorts your problem, and welcome to the loony-bin BTY. \:]

Cheers Al.

1. First thing to check is the location of the filters folder.
It should be under:

Applications > Photoshop > Plug-ins > Filters.
Applications > Photoshop > Plug-ins >Effects.

All the standard filters should be located here, about 29 & 47 items respectively with the standard PS install.

2. If you have additional filters installed, you should direct PS to them from: (Main menu)

Photoshop > Preferences > Plug-ins & Scratch Disks.

Check the button and follow the route through your directory to where-ever that folder is located.

3. Look in the PS prefs:
Users > You > Library > Preferences >Adobe Photoshop Settings >

There should be a set of preferences for PS and also one for Plug-in Cache. (As well as half a dozen others)

These can sometimes become corrupted.
Delete these two files and relaunch PS. They will be recreated automatically.

4. What version of OSX are you running? The latest is 10.3.4 and you should update as soon as possible.
Also, which version of Photoshop? If you have version 7, there are updates and fixes on the Adobe website download section.
Some of these were specifically for OSX. You should see v.7.0.1 at the bottom of the PS splash screen if it is up to date.

5. Finally, have you run any of the OSX routines for permissions etc.
You can run these and others from a neat utility called Cocktail or use the Disk Utility when booted from the OSX installer CD.

Check that lot out and let me know how you get on.

Cheers, Al.

Thank you so much. I am Still learning my computer and your instructions were crystal clear. I recovered my filters! they were in the Correct places like you said to check. I dont have any addittional plugins so I skipped step 2. When I went to step you had directed me again to the preferences but I could not find the User > you > Library > preferences > PS settings part. I couldnt find Plug in Cache but I found Image Cache is this the same as you were talking about? I couldnt find any files? . So what I did is I went in to the Plugins and scratch disks and checked the box "additional plug-ins folder" and i restarted photoshop and that did it. I dont know how it happened but they just disappeared. Thank you for all your help and time. I owe you. I hope I explained it well enough.

To answer your questions about my computer, I am running 10.2 and PS 7.0. I sont see the v7.0.1 you are telling me about. I go to adobe.com and download them? the update for PS is what I am asking.

thanks a million

No problem Chris.

Here is the link for the Photoshop downloads:

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...form=Macintosh

Follow the link and download the following files:

V.7.0.x :
File Browser, Altivec Core, OSX Keyboard fix & Scriptingplug-in.

V.7.0.1: Photoshop 7.0.1 update (15MB)

There are instructions for installing the updates, basically drag them to the Plug-ins folder. :B

The main PS updater runs from an installer.

Set your Finder views to 'column view' instead of icon or list and you will be able to follow the pathway to the library folders I mentioned.

I'd strongly recommend upgrading to OSX 10.3.4 at the earliest chance. It is bulletproof!
At least upgrade (free) to OSX 10.2.8 in the meantime.
The upgrades are available at the Apple website downloads section:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/

Look under Categories and select Apple. This will take you to the Apple only downloads.
Go for the relevant 'Combo' updates. Read the notes on minimum OS requirements.

The original problem "may" be due to the fact that the internal routines are not being run. These clear out stale cache files and tidy up other junk. These get run automatically about 3A.M., but only if the computer is left on overnight.
Get Cocktail and you can run the scripts anytime. It is simple and painless. Honest.[honesty]

Hope that helps, cheers, Al.
