Default FM 2008: Hartlepool United - The Monkey'angers

Hartlepool United - The Monkey'angers

Info

Hartlepool United Football Club are an English football team currently playing in League One. They won promotion to League One in the season 2006-07. Hartlepool play their home games at Victoria Park, which is situated on Clarence Road near the town's coastline.

The most famous person to be associated with Hartlepool United is Brian Clough, who went on to achieve managerial glory with Derby County and to an even greater degree Nottingham Forest. He began his managerial career at Hartlepool in October 1965 before moving on to Derby two seasons later.

Another famous ex-manager is Cyril Knowles, who took over as manager in December 1989 and the following season helped them win promotion to the Third Division. Unfortunately, he was suffering from brain cancer by the time of Hartlepool's promotion success and had to retire just after the end of the season. He died three months later, aged 47.

Hartlepool are currently managed by former Northern Ireland international Danny Wilson. Wilson joined the club in June 2006 after leaving MK Dons and led the team to promotion in his first season in charge. The club famously staged a Middlesbrough game in the 1986-87 season after Boro had been locked out of their own ground, Ayresome Park, by the bailiffs.

On June 13, 2006, Danny Wilson was appointed manager. Wilson was unable to save fellow strugglers MK Dons from relegation to League Two at the end of the 2005-06 season, and he was sacked on May 10, 2006. On 1 January 2007 Hartlepool United equalled the all-time Football League record of consecutive wins without conceding a goal. The 1-0 win at Mansfield Town was the 8th straight win without conceding. The record was also held by Barnsley F.C. and Wigan Athletic. However, the record was then broken by Stockport County on March 3, 2007 when they recorded their ninth successive win without conceding. The club went on to complete a 23 match unbeaten run which finally ended against the team they last lost to - Barnet.

Hartlepool bounced back to League One at the first time of asking, finishing second behind champions Walsall. This was the clubs second promotion in four years and proved again that the side is once again on the up, despite the relegation of the previous season.

Great game posts

If you have just had a sensational win or a great match write little match report on it as it shows more than a screenshot does.

Who should I sign posts

If you want help and advice on a new signing post as much information as possible – this should include at least your transfer budget remaining, wage budget remaining, bank balance, players already in said position, transfer targets and what type of player you want (e.g. a quick, strong striker that is under 24).

Help strengthening team posts

If you want help and advice regarding strengthening your team post your starting line up and formations, substitutes, your feelings on the team, positions you want strengthening, transfer budget, transfer targets and the type of players you want. If you include as much information as possible it is easier for us to help you.

Updates

If you are going to post updates, please keep it to three a season – end of pre-season, end of January transfer window and end of season. This will make the thread easier to use and less clogged up. Also if you try and only use screenshots in these updates otherwise the thread will be littered with screenshots. If you do want to talk about a signing either put it in one of the three updates.

These updates should be along the lines of:

Pre-season update (year)
Transfers In
Transfers Out
Formation
Squad
Expectations for the season
Pre-season odds
Remaining transfer budget
Remaining wage budget

January transfer window update (year)
Transfers In
Transfers Out
Squad
League table
Cup competitions
Revised expectations
Player and Manager Awards

End of season update
End of season league table
Cup competitions
Manger’s thoughts on the season
Transfer targets

Hartlpool United Born and Bread! We will go up this season no doubt

Try and get Elliot and Moore to longer contracts because even though they are getting on they are two of the best in the squad. Also get James Brown to a long term contract because he is the future as is David Foley. Wingers could be needed in the squad as well as another striker as Foley isnt ready to step up into the first team like Mackay. Barker,Porter and Moore are good strikers but another one or two maybe needed to get more goals.

The challenge is....Bring Silverware to Victoria Park as we have never won the league or a cup. Another challenge is to get Hartlepool to where we havent been the Championship! Good luck and post screenies where you are, who you have brought in and out!

You from Hartlepool? So am I

I'm looking at Luke Beckett as a new signing, should cost about 200k, but you can get a massive transfer budget from the board so .
Jody Morris on a free looks a fb deal, so I might go for him, his mental stats are fantastic. Just shame Barker and Liddle don't look that good on the game , unlike IRL. .

I think this league is too physical for Barker because even though he has got five this season he doesnt seem to be doing as good in real life. I heard Liddle was amaizng on the game

Luke Beckett is a great signing he will get you decent amount of goals

Well done getting Boro as a fedder club, they have alot of good young talents.
Never looked at Doudin on this game, very good on FM07 though. Luke Beckett's a very good striker on this game as well.
