Hello,

i was trying to make the rays of light like in the attached snapshot ,
but without much of success...

can anyone help on this?

Keeper, I can't seem to get into your stuff. I can see the front door, but all links are timing out for some reason. I hope I'm the only one. I'll check again in a few hours.

Just the other day I uploaded my version which uses Polar Coords + Wind. See: Burst of Light.

However, the examle given doesn't seem to be PC + Wind. Looks like that one gradient tool to me. Or maybe funky vertical linear grad + PC.

Btw, I agree that Koko's example looks like the "Starburst effect", but it's not exactly the same. It's hard to explain but the "Starbust Effect" is more "spikey", the reason why I didn't post any of these related tutorials earlier this day.

I'm trying a different approach at the moment (still experimenting) using a gradient in combination with wave filter and polar coordinates. I'll post the result if it looks what Koko is asking for.

the starburst is nice but it has too many spikes,
while in the example i attached there are only several light rays


i think i have a start, some tutorial i saw at http://www.phong.com/tutorials/star/

i guess it still require some finish, maybe some gradient... [confused] ...

so far it looks like we have unsolved case....

Ya sorry bout the confusion with the site. Aaagh! The damn php wasn't working right so i had to backshift to SSI again.

As for the effect... i didn't mean to suggest that the tute i have is an exact replica of that effect. But it's very simple to modify the look to have less streams of light.

Come on... i challenge yous to figure that out. It's not a hard equation, trust me.

This is a great time to learn about the "other" gradient fill style -- "Solid". It's within the editor, and the option is within the "Gradient Style:" menu. For this specific effect, try using all white (pull all the colour sliders to the right) and adding Transparency (the checkbox at the bottom right).
Adjust the "Roughness" slider too to dial in a good blend. And create the pattern you need (or close to it) by slapping that "Random" button a few times.
You then need to apply the gradient tool style called "Angle Gradient". Start the tool in the center and apply it outward.

See what you can do with that. [righton]

PS: Phong's tute is on the right track. But you'll need to do that at least 2x. Once with medium thick lines/spaces, and once again with thinner lines/spaces. Then rotate one of them until you have a look you like. Which means too that you should apply the effect to a square doc, not a rectangluar one.

some quick implementation already show very nice results...
making it on seperate layer, changing the blend mode to "hard light" looks good with this effect....

BTW... i intended on that frontpage image taking the user to the Forum Tute TOC page. Not directly to any one tute. I did this so they would realize there are a number of tutes there not just those shown in that frontpage image.
