Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Creative Freedom: How much is too much?

How can you tell when a player has been given too much creative freedom or not enough? I don't really like this slider because it seems to be too ambiguous. Rashidi posted the other week that this slider ties into a players flair, should one be taking more notice of a players flair then instead of their creativity?

Also, I'm either seeing things or I'm sure I saw in the tactics screen, when choosing creative freedom from the view menu, that both the players creativity and flair attribute values were displayed next to the players name but I installed the latest beta patch and it doesn't show flair any more.

Decissions should be the most important thing, since high creativity optopn for a player indicates how much a player can do what he wants instead what you have told you. Of course players with high creativity and flair would be more favoured with creativity option, but with bad decissions they would often choose bad.

But players with good decissions and bad creaivity and flair would not have a boost with creative option, since they won't do anything special.

It depends on his overall skill as well. The thing is high creative freedom means making ad hoc decisions that will often be surprising but rarely practical.

Imagine Messi, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic or Adriano making a dribble or shooting from a distance or narrow angle, when they are expected to pass.

You need player that is good at all attributes that affect personal plays - off the ball, dribbling, technique, long shots, finishing, creativity, flair (a must), pace and acceleration, agility. All of them are important.

On the other hand you do not need teamwork, work rate, positioning, etc. I would put Decisions in this list as well. The thing is you do not need the "right" decision from your Messi, you need the unexpected decision that Messi can make a goal. After all who would say that Maradona's dribble against England in 1986 was right decision? Everybody but only after the goal .

So, my advice is not to give high CF to a player just because he has high flair, decisions or creativity. Give him high CF because of great overall skills. A poor player with high Flair will try to make the unexpected but should you encourage him?

The creativity slider has 20 notches. I give each player the exact amount of freedom as they have for the creativity attribute (with the exception of CBs, which I have on 1)
