Over-use of long-range shooting. Is my problem tactical?
I've been using a variant of www2's 4-5-1/4-3-3 tactic, and am well into my second season. I've tweaked the tactics for my Milan side, following my previous years triumph in Serie A.
However, I'm noticing a major flaw. My creative central midfielders in particular, but also my wider players and central striker always appear to shoot on sight.
The problem is most noticable with my central central midfielder (usually Kaka, a player I know has shoots from distance as a preference). Whomsoever I play here almost always ends up playing atrociously, wasting possession time and time again by needlessly shooting. I've got long shots on rarely, I've greatly reduced creative freedom (which seems criminally wasteful given the player) but the problem persists. I'm never seeing passes, always shots.
Moreover, my players seem decidedly unwilling to ever run with the ball, never running at people when they have the ball. Given the calibre of players like Pato and Kaka and so on, surely I could expect them to try? Again, they've all got run with ball on, so what's wrong?
Using the first beta patch... Is that the problem?
