Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Has anyone SUCCEDED in defending?!

Am I the only guy that finds defending just frustrating?I tried all sorts of my own tactics then I tried some of hte tactics posted here..

Bassicly the only sure way to win is to score 4 goals per match...I have really good team and I always finish the season with best offense and then wort defense in top 10...

Every single match I receive 2 goals from 2 shots or something like that...A minute ago i lost 3:2 with them having 3 shots at goal and me having 27...And this happens all the time no matter what I do the oopisiting are absolutly lethal when it comes to scoring goals...

think it's more a case of them creating very few really good chances, whereas you are creating lots of half chances. i've found that the quicker i set the tempo the more chances i miss. Suppose thats why my slow passing tactic is working really well in italy at the minute

Attack is the best form of defence. Of course against quality opposition you will struggle to keep clean sheets, but against most sides, I find playing the game mostly in their half makes conceding goals pretty rare.

I'm playing an attacking 4-4-2 formation (wingers arrowed to AMCs) atm and have scored 35 goals and conceded three (eight games). Two of those goals were in the same match and were goalie bloopers (bad ones) when my regular keeper (Reina) was injured. The other was in late in the game against my backup keeper. I'm sure Pepe Reina would have made the save.
I play as Liverpool, btw.

If you're playing teams of better quality, expect to concede, otherwise though, attack!

Its possible to defend well, I've done threads where I talk about keeping water-tight defenses and I've shown how its done.

NO. Carlos the wee-man Tevez just hat tricked against me in the community shield. All three goals on long passes where he won a contested header against a CB. Meanwhile Torres seems to think the goal is 3 stories high or he is trying to impress some rugby league scouts... I have no idea.

SI need a forum for lamentations.

My next question is can I use the pregame editor to clone 10 Gerrards?

currently 16 games into the season and conceded 4, scored 45. Still at the trial stage.

Althaz //

Can you explain more detailed how you set your tactics? Screeshoots of the players setting? Tactic setting?

Regards

Something that helped shore up my defence no end was simply adjusting the defensive line based on the speed of my central defenders, if they're slow set the DL low if fast you can set it further forward, got to be worth taking a look at.

In 4 seasons I've averaged about 27 league goals conceeded per season with Man Utd (I know, it's only Man Utd but I'm waiting for the patch to start my proper game).

For me the trick is to not play too attacking but not play too defensive either, you need to be nice and balanced and not leave gaps between the midfield and the defence.

My tactic that I posted on the forums seems to be working well defensively for others that have tried it as well so it can be done.

in a word...YES!

this just about says it all:
im at swansea city, in the championship - i scored 72 goals (3rd highest goalscoring team in the league) and conceded 102!!!...(the worst!)

stats wise my defenders are good, 15+ in things like marking, heading, tackling, pace, concentration - and my keeper is "a good championship keeper" according to my coach and his stats support that. it just doesnt seem to be very true to my players abilties that im conceding so many goals - regardless of whether im using tactics of my own, or ones downloaded
