Default Imageready expert question!

Hi,

I'm using layersets and slices in PS7 and Imageready 7.

I use slices for making a complete layerset invisable for different webpages.

In a layerset i would use slices again, but thats my problem:

Can i only make slices in 1 dimention, or is it posible to use more layers slices..?
If not, how can i work around this qute problem?

Thanx ;\

Welcome to the community Dondick. [excited]

"Can i only make slices in 1 dimention.." i'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. Can you explain a little further, or in a different way?

Default Multiple slices

hi keeper,

(thanx for your welcome) [righton]

What i ment with the slices in 1 dimention:

When i use layers in layersets, i can show or hide complete layersets (webpages) on top of each other.
Example:
I have layerset 1 on top , layerset 2 underneath.

In layerset 2 i want to use slices and rollovers who only have a relation with layerset2.

How can i make the slices of layerset2 only visible when layerset1 is hiden?

Oh ok i get it now.

Short answer?... you can't. Unfortunately PS is not THAT versitile, yet.

However... you can try using an old skool method of slicing. It would allow you to do what you're asking.

One catch though... you don't actually "slice" anything until you're ready to save out the pages. Instead, use the Rectangle selection tool to select around your page elements, just like you would with the Slice tool. Then, on a single new layer, fill the selection with a colour. Do this as much as you want, putting all the filled shapes on the one "template" layer.
Then, just prior to saving out the page(s), switch to IR. Now use the Magic Wand with a tolerance of 0, and anti-aliasing OFF... and select each coloured square one-at-a-time. When selected, under the SLICES menu choose "New slice from selection". Do this for each coloured square you want to convert. Then edit the slice info and save the page as usual.

I know it's a slightly longer route to take. But is does allow you to do what you're asking.

Is this clear?

Default Imageready expert question!

hey don, theres a few options for you to explore.

The first option is for Photoshop 7, and that is to make sure that
you are using 'Layered Based Slices' for every slice.

The reason I suggest this is, because every time you resize or reposition a layer with a Layer Based Slice attached to it, the slice automatically resizes/repositions to that layer. Would be a little a work, and obviously a Save As a different file would be in order before you do the resize or repositioning of layers.

The other option is for Photoshop CS, if you ever get the chance to use it, the new Web Palette is awesome, and provides an easy solution to your request.

Simply put, CS provides Slice Sets(just like Layered Sets) in which you can toggle visibility per design at will upon save. Not to mention the new Layer Comps feature to coicide.

That one was just a teaser, but I hope the first part of my thread helps.

cheers
