Im Crystal Palace in my 3rd season and still in the championship.
This has been mainly due to a lack of goals and letting in suspect amount of sloppy late goals.
I dominate most games creating many chances (a lot more than the opposition), however I score about 1 goal per game (around 14 shots nearly all from inside the area, half of them sitters).
I have good strikers but they are all young (except for clinton morrison). I thought this inexperience might be the reason and they might crack under pressure but their composure stats are; 15, 17, 17, 13. Also they all have have good finishing stats - 14 and above.
One explanation many people have is that i might be playing at a too high tempo. I can assure you that this is not the case as a play a short passing game at a slow or mixed tempo and with a narrow width (so not many of the chances are headed).
Does anyone have any explanation for why my strikers are so impotant.
if you are creating lots of chances then i'd imagine you have a good tactic that is working reasonably well, so i dont see a need to change that.
From my own personal experiences i had a very good tactic that just wasnt scoring enough, Even with low tempo. But what i did was just made a few minor changes and my team when on to score 30 goals more in the league.
So my advice to you is to just tinker around with your strikeforce settings until you find one that unlocks the door.
Im sorry it doesnt exactly answer your question, but i was in a similar position to yourself and this is what worked for me.
The specific changes i made were i play a 4231, i was previously playing my target man as michael owen type but instead turned him into a peter crouch type, ie back to goal, holds up ball, ball to feet.
It certainly worked for me so just perservere with minor changes.
