No closing down

I've read all tactic tips on the forum about closing, I know about closing bug in FM 2008, I tried everything....

I play Brescia in preseason friendlies. Got hammered in every game: 0-2, 1-2, 3-4, 1-2 and 0-7. First two games are with Brescia Reserves. This is ridicoulous as I had no problems with closing down in previous version. I play normal 4-4-2 with

Mentality 13
Creative F. 8
Passing 10
Tempo 14
Width 14
Closing Down 13
Time Wasting 5
Defensive Line 14
Tacling Normal

did you download the patch, cos this fixes a lot of the issues?

to try snd get round the terrible defending, I set the opp. instructions to close down EVERY player, inc subs, play a very deep line and uber defensive, with that, played 5 man back line, so far uber defensive - but then played two high AM's Right and Left and two strikers. slow tempo, short passing, very little creativity.

It's worth a shot, works for me, got 3rd in EPL with Derby County - tipped for relegation.

I'm experienced the same too. I'm playing beta 2, players don't closing down, don't tackle... it's terrible.

They do close down, you just aint doing it right

I hate to disagree with you, but tactics won't make the players any smarter. When a player is running by you the defender should react no matter what tactic your using. Adjusting the tactics to cover the flaw just masks the deeper issue. Players reacted in fm06, fm07 and fm08 beta 1. I do understand what your saying but it could be possible that also that a change has been made that causes the users tactics to not be implemented properly into the engine. Anything is possible and it can't just be a coincidence that so many users are having the same problems with the 2nd beta that also found the issue resolved with the 1st beta.

Nothing seem to work. Amy kind sole still having the 1st beta patch ?

on beta 2, every players are like having closing-down of 1 even if you set to 20.

But, I still manage to win games with my teams. For example, I brought Carlisle from League 1 to Premier League in 2 seasons.

Remember what doesn't work for you also doesn't work for the AI. It's fair game. Just treat the "close-down" function as useless for now. Or like me, just set everyone to 20, and I like to think the "20" really improves the close-down.

Like I said then you are not doing something right, there's more to closing down than just that. If a player is not inclined to make a challenge he will not. The goal is to know what are the things that make people close down well, and there are enough threads on the forum that cover that.
