Right first off, ive played every CM and FM game, and have managed to succeed at most of them.
FM2008 however, i cant even get off the ground.
I always start off in league 2, and have started 4 new gos, with the beta patch, and the new updated beta patch.
No matter who i manage Im just keeping beat all the time. I was peterboro first off, did crap, and noticed MK Dons where doing well, and they whipped me. They had quick strikers, great finishing. Played me off the park, and were top of the league.
Started new game.....with MK Dons. Again getting beat every game, strikers crap, everyone slow, passing rubbish. Noticed Lincoln had a good team, and beat me 4-0 in the league.
Started new game.... with Lincoln. Getting beat all the time....you see where this is going?
I just need help getting a stable 4-4-2 formation. I dont want to download a tactic from someone else, just need to be set off in the right direction. There was a great thread about setting up a 4-4-2, but it appears to have gone.
Please someone talk me through the basic setup please.
Now im just changing tactics every 2 mins, and keeping whipped.
Ok. I picked up the last Monday and spent a lot of time trying to implement 2 striker tactic which would work on FM2008.
Unfortunately to no avail. A stabile 4-4-2 tactic seems nearly impossible also tried to create 3-5-2 / 5-3-2 / 4-3-3 tactics.
It seems that this mission is nearly impossible. If you play with 2 strikers they seem to perform very poorly.
..also It seems that an attacking 4-5-1 is the only tactic which will allow you to dominate with cruise control. (And by reading this forum seems to be only tactic that is actually working)
..and yes the game is about to be shelved.
The most beneficial thread in these forums is regarding DL/Closing down thread. It gives some insights but an working 4-4-2/3-5-2/5-3-2 and 4-3-3 is impossible it seems.
Well get this... after playing around some more, have started to get on to something.
Ignore my last game against Wycombe, who despite being bottom of league 2, are unplayable, and whom i lost 4-1 to, I have been on something of a roll.
Started the season making chances, and scoring, but was conseeding to many. No wins in my first 7 games, 3 draws and 4 defeats.
But after a little tweaking, went on a 4 game unbeaten run. Even kept 2 clean sheets.
Im playing 4-4-2. Short passing in defense, and center mid, wingers and striker, passing a bit more direct.
1 defensive minded CM, the other making forward runs.
Also got 1 striker pulling back into the hole, which is good when we win the ball back, and is always on for a quick attack. Also works better with him set to direct passing, and the other striker to have pace, for the quick counter, ball over the top.
Have you checked your staff?
I play Southampton in my 3rd season and I only found out that my staff was sh*t after my second season.
After sacking a few of them and getting in some quality coaches and personally assigning them to the specific training attributes my results have started getting much better. Southampton are 5th in the league and going for a CL spot with 8 games left to play!
I sincerely apologize to SI for all the negative criticism I had on this game. It turns out my training was good, maybe even a few of those tactics I threw away were good. But my staff was very bad. My assistant manager had a tactical knowledge of 9!!!
After adjusting this, and appointing the coaches and assistant manager to the correct attributes My team are playing much better and I am no longer suffering that many goals from, corners, balls getting played back to the goalkeeper who doesn’t kick it away.
I even had a few very good games i.e. losing 2-1 at Man.Utd after completely dominating the game but in extra time Rooney scored the winning goal. That I can accept as sometimes he’s unstoppable.
I hadn’t played the game for a long time as I didn’t bother that much with FM2007, but now I just can’t stop playing!
Then might I advice you to select a standard tactic and first tweak the team instructions rather than start by tweaking the player instructions.
I.E. start of adjusting: mentality, closing down and defensive line as these tree attributes are connected. As well as tempo and passing. The savest is to start by leaving passingand tempo in the middle and just adjusting the first three mentioned.
I play a 4-4-2 formation, with the midfielders on closing down whole pitch (first notch) and the defenders on own half first pitch. It's workingmiracles for me defensively.
A plea for help, before I quit!
