Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default When to hold up the ball?

Was just wondering what people thought about when to use the hold up ball instruction?

Is there any point in getting one of our strikers to hold up the ball if you are NOT using a targetman? If yes, why as I haven't really seen any advantages to this but am keen to hear other opinions on the matter.

And what about DMC's and holding up the ball, how many people use this?

Personally I think that the DMC position is where I have seen hold up ball to be the most effective.

DMC is for me a classic example of holding up ball, simply to allow the other players to get forward in the meantime, therefor allowing more attacking options.

The only time I have used it on a striker was when he was really slow, but I was not really convinced with the results (goes a few versions back as well).

Generally I think slow players holding up the ball can be beneficial for the game, if they got the technical skills that come with it.
