So I've been grappling with my corner routines for a while, and have hit upon what I think is a pretty successful set up.
Runners attack the near and far post, drawing defenders with them, and someone runs from deep. Someone else bothers the goalkeeper to keep him on his line. Corners are directed for the six yard box, and my two big centre halves (or my best headers) are set to "forward" along with any spare midfielders.
Nice and simple, but the result seems to be 10-15 goals per season, all from the players who are set to "forward". The trick seems to be getting some lumbering ox of a defender with high jumping and heading one-on-one with whoever's marking him. It's worked for me in all leagues, with three different teams, and I'm consistently top of the "goals from corners" stat at the end of the season.
Anyone else got a decent routine they'd care to share?
ive been having amazing success with jermaine defoe, thats right 5'7 and jumping 7 set on near post flick on. Honestly. scored 8 goals from corners so far and 11-12 games in, may be a fluke....
I found from watching my corners on mixed over a couple of seasons that the only goals that were being scored were near post flicks or bullet headers from six yards out. Near post seemed to result in a lot of corners going straight out though, so I settled on the six yard box. Even headers I win that are saved still give me more corners, or a desperate penalty area scramble for the ball.
SGW, I've been doing the same thing - big guys on "forward" - with good success, with the added wrinkle of one guy on near-post-flick.
As for the near-post-flick, you don't need a lot of Jumping there - you need Heading, Technique, and Creativity, I think. The idea being, you're going to be getting less "challenged" headers so its more about "placement".
