Ok he has made a tactic, it works for him, and he is proud of it and he wants to share it.
Good on you fella.
| Barnsley or someone else. I like your tactics and I use one similar but I like to tweak depending on the opposition and my players - except I have one problem.
I have beta patch version 1 (not downloaded the 2nd beta yet as I figured I should just wait till the final patch comes out).
When I go to player instructions it does not allow me to tweak the closing down part of tactic. When I try to move it I am only allowed three options - 1. rarely, 2. mixed, or 3. often. How can I get it to close down only in "own half" or "whole pitch". Are there only 3 options or more.

| It's been introduced in beta patch, v2. Basically, rarely= "own area", mixed = "own half", and often ="whole pitch".

I am looking at plumping for Newcastle for a career game to try and bring some glory back to the North East. I looked at the squad and came up with the following tactic which appears to be working well so far:- http://www.lobortis.com/n/6950061587
Let me know if anybody needs a screen grab of the formation. The instructions are otherwise exactly the same but I have dialled down the creative freedom with the central midfielder having the most. The new beta is well worth a download and is in the same place as the old one at the top of the forum.

A bit of trivia for any Carlisle fans out there - my wife is the cousin of Carlisle coach and ex-Barnsley player David Wilkes. Maybe that is why she doesn't take the carving knife to the computer when I am absorbed in the world of football management!!!

I need help keeping clean sheets, I have far too many odd goals conceded for my liking every game, do not like that at all.
Also, how to become more clinical? What sort of setting are required?
And next, how do I stop second season syndrome, a great tactic suddenly becoming crap over a few months, it happened in 07 also, nothing changed in terms of chances, I just started conceding in games and not being able to score to save my life.

Having downloaded the second version of the beta patch all looks well - players are scoring from corners and pens. Beware though as the AI will put loads of pressure on your team in the last hal an hour or so of the game so, on occasions, be prepared to defend your socks off. I still can't drag myself away from the Premiership but the first tactic is still effective with the updated patch.

Thanks for the tactic. It worked very well for my Tottenham squad the first half of the first season.
I bought Michael Owen and some talents. Michael Owen has done very well with this tactic. At 1 of January i led the Premier League by 3 points down to Chelsea.
The problem after January is the re-ranking. The tactic doesnt work that very well after re-ranking, so i wondered if you would have any idea for a re-ranking version of the tactic, so that it will work vell for middle-teams that overperform in the first part of the season.
That would be ideal for teams like Tottenham, Newcastle etc.
Im going to give it another go on a new Tottenham save, will post feedback soon
Damn great work |
