Struggling with FM 2008 in the first few days, unable to get a good string of results with various tactics, I decided to build a tactic from scratch. The result is JTMK'08, which proved to be a very reliable tactic:
Footnote with these results is that I played with FC Bayern, but everyone who has struggled with different tactics, like me before, knows that these results are rather good, even for a team like FC Bayern... A friend of mine tested the tactic with Udinese (not a small club either, but also not as 'big' in Italy as FC Bayern in Germany) and he was very enthousiastic to. Some comments on the tactic:
The JTMK'08 tactic is a very solid tactic: little goals are conceded while enough goals are scored to win matches, simple as that. What kind of players do you need? I presume that it's not the first time you play FM so I will keep this short (won't be telling you that a defender had to be able to mark and tackle, etc.). I think that the players in my Bayern team are ideal for this tactic, the tactic is made for them.
Defenders:
Nothing special at the back, you need the best defenders that you can get on your level. It's not necessary to have DL/R on the sides, you can also put CB's there, mainly because the DL/R players don't have to attack and only defend.
Defensive midfielders:
You need some strong DM's here, that can also pass a ball. Tall players are an asset.
Central midfielder:
This player will run on the midfield and get as many balls as he can. Stamina, work rate, tackling are therefore important, but passing to. Don't play a too attacking player here.
Left attacking midfielder:
This position is designed for an attacking midfielder that is creative and can also score: players like Van der Vaart.
Right attacking midfielder:
You can put a second striker here, choose for yourself what type of striker you'd like to play: a tall one, a fast one, give it a try.
Striker:
I used a tall Target Man (Klose) here, but I experienced that most of his goals are not scored by his head: because the tactic has a very narrow formation not too many crosses are aimed at the strikers head. You can also play a type of player like Rooney here and change Target Man Supply to mixed.
This was my short comment on the tactic. I hope it is roughly clear, so that you can try for your self and make some adjustments if necessary for your team. I encourage everyone to give it a try for a couple of matches and see if it's reliable for you to. Please let me know if it is!

I prefer to play whitout a playmaker, but if you want to use one, it has to be the left attacking midfielder (the MC would be too busy tackling around)

JTMK'08 - very reliable tactic for FM 2008 Post #7
You're right Soil, I used to play with one, but later decided not to pick one because it didn't add to the matches (I felt). I should have unticked it before uploading, but on the other hand, you can also choose to use a playmaker if you want.
