Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Defending against 4-2-3-1

This strategy is driving me nuts in any of FM series. Three AMs (of course, two are quasi-wings) and one striker, never could defend it properly. Out of many different approaches, the only thing that somehow worked is deep defending. Any man marking, on any of these offensive guys turns usually to be a disaster. To make things worse, at least one-two of them is usually a class.
I would appreciate any advise so much.

Well, Chelsea fond of this formation. As Arsenal, what I do is man mark the lone FC with Gallas, and set my Toure (the other CB) on zonal.. both have no tight marking. I also tackle hard both wingers and close down + tackle hard always the AMC (usually Lampard in chelsea's case). Do take a close look at their stat and see if you really shutting out lampard while not giving much room for other players to dictate the play tho. They key thing is look for their passing and key pass for their playmakers and runs for their wingers/FC.

The only formation problem that I'm currently facing is 4-3-1-2 with both FC have SArrows. goddamn freaking nothing works so far D:

Oh, I agree, 4-3-1-2 with sarrows can completely confuse defense, sometime fullbacks don't know what to do - mark strikers, close them down, the DCs find themselves by the sideline, and one of those MCs (and that is assuming that u have AMC covered) just sneaks in completely unmarked. That's true, this strategy can make chaos too. Luckily, it's not that common.
What hurts most is that, even when I carefully design defense against these strategies, usually I forget something, and the punishment is an almost certain goal. On the other hand, too many specific requirements can have a negative impact, since the football players (especially defense) are not too bright for so many informations
Anyway, I'm talking too much and instead, I should try with your advise. Will let you know, thanks!

4-3-1-2 with sarrows
Newcastle, I usually start with a 4141 formation.

Three AMs, just lost at home to this one but I think I should have barrowed a MC.

With attacking wingers had some success with defensive full backs by reducing RWD and FWD runs.

Formation I'm having a problem with is Man City 4132, or 41212 rather than 424 with quick passing through middle, again resorting to a 4141 but often they score before I can change my formation.

Hah.. So the newcastle in your game using 4312 SArrow too eh

My thick headness still want to stick to my 4-4-2 System, so that probably why I still cant find way to stop the damn AMC from scoring .. Damn Milner! D:
