At what age do these guys retire? Del Piero and Nedved are 34 and 36 respectively, but they still want first team places. How long do I have to wait?

Apparently the game allows players to play way beyond their mid 30's if they are still actively involved in 1st team football. van der Sar is still the Holland #1 at 39 years, Makelele still plays for France as a regular, Giggs and Scholes will still walk into any Premiership team after 2 yrs in the game.

Unless your players are languishing in the reserves with no matches, they are likely to last very old. But then you run the risk of them being unhappy. I had to send Davids to an affiliate team as he was unhappy with the lack of action and 'devastated at missing out on the (international team) tournament'. After his return, he announce his retirement at the end of the season.

Ballack has finally decided to retire at age 36. Looks like he'll be a pretty decent youth coach. Drogba should be next in line -- I'm anticipating him retiring at the end of my next season (although he could probably play pretty well for a L1 or L2 team).

Update: the day after Ballack sets his retirement date, Drogba follows suit. Caught me by surprise. Anyways, doesn't really look like he'll be a very good manager/ass.manager. Up next... probably Lampard. He's a backup at this point to Obi Mikel, Ever Benega, and Essien, but he's still pretty decent. (Actually, Enke will probably retire next -- I signed him as a backup to Cech)
