I am the type of manager (who isn't) who just luvvvs to get kids and create good players out of them. Or to have not-that-great team but try to squeeze the most of it. But, I always reach a point when I have too many kids and only too late I realize: man, only eleven players can play at one time. One can say that I am then not doing a good job, and unfortunately I have nothing to say in my defense. I cannot help it - when i see a promising kid, I gotta snap him.
Anyway, I figure out, if I cannot control myself, why not let FM controls me. And, in any of the FM series, I would finish coachng Bilbao, and as a rule I would spend the most time with them (in average 5-6 seasons comparing to a at most three seasons with any other unconstraint team). The reason is clear: cannot bring any player i want, choice is limited to some ~1% of the database, if not less. Furthermore, Bilbao always had a top youth academy and training facilities, so all the necessities for the good fun are met. Ofcourse, one can coach Mexican or some other team, with similar constraints, but I wanna have big European names coming to my field.
I certainly feel I am not the only one with this motivation, and for that reason, we need a Bilbao thread. Although I am a verrrrrry experienced FM player (i.e., need to get a life), I have not been that active in posting and would like to give a chance to somebody with more posts to step up.
Anyway, I'll give you guys the time till this evening (evening in american time), and if nobody posts an opening, Ill jump in. Furthermore, I'm at job now, and my boss really likes to sneak behind.
Cheers to the whole community
I had an 18 year managerial reign at Bibao on a previous version of FM and won everything with them. They start with a set of decent players who suit a 4-2-3-1 perfectly and Llorente is a great figurehead striker for you team. After a bit of success I signed Del Horno, Oskitz (who was good on older versions of the game) and Arteta, and got my youth/training facilities up to the max. My team was awesome and after a while a decent supply of kids came through. They weren't always rated at ridculous values but because my rep was high and my team had stayed together for ages, they gelled perfectly. As there's not many players to choose you signed over 30's too... I had Xabi Alonso when he was 34 and he did a good job as backup until he was 36! all my players stopped until well into their 30's and most became coaches. I picked up the 16 year old potentials as soon as they were generated (which took a major scout of every teams U18's before the season started) and I got loads of amazing players with some being some of the best players i've ever had on any game.
A Bilbao record is a must for anyone who thinks they're good at the game. It more realistic a you stick with your players longer (you have too - Arteta was average for 2 years before he hit any form) and they stay involved until they're older (also more real). All this and my total sales was more than purchases.

I'm not playing Bilbao, but I'm following same premises: I only can have welsh players/staff. Yes, there are far more welsh players than basque, but I'm playing in english bss and following LLM rules, so I cannot "search" them, only look in u19, u21 and those who my scouts find by themselves. Believe me, is hard but feels great!
Bilbao is a team I like quite irl. there are players outside spain with basque nacionality (maybe south-american players). Where do you can find them outside your club?
Great team, great challenge, a must experience for every FM gamer.
You really must be prepared to put in some manual work to make them work, but it's worth it in teh end. Plus it makes you a better tactical coach for any future lower league excursions.
