Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Alright everyone

Where do you all stand on home and away matches? Trawling through the posts a lot of people are talking about different tactics for home and away matches. What does everyone think about the differences in results and performances both home and away, and is it really neccessary to develop different tactics for the two scenarios?

I've been playing CM/FM for a while now and have never bothered, but on 08 I have a game going with Porto where Im smashing teams at home but getting mixed results and generally poorer performances away. Basically, it got me wondering whether or not I should work on something, and thought I would gauge the general opinion on here

It all depends really. If you have a tactic that's working fine both home and away then great, no need to change it.

But if you are having problems away but your home forms fine then it suggests that you definitely should work on a seperate away formation.

Many people like to have a few versions of the same tactic at their disposal:
Their normal home tactic.
A slightly more defensive and counter attacking away tactic.
A more attacking version of their home tactic for when they're behind towards the end of a game and need to throw caution to the wind.
A very defensive version of their tactic to hold onto narrow leads.

Some people can have up to 15 different versions of the same tactic, ranging from ultra defensive to ultra attacking so they have an option for almost any situation. It all depends on how you like to play the game. I personally like to try and create just one balanced tactic that works both home and away, but I still have a couple of other versions saved in case I need to change anything.
