Thanks for putting me onto the correct path, Cleon. I have sent a couple of emails to rashidi1, over the last week or so, as he requested. However, they kept being returned as undeliverable.
My internet provider said there was nothing wrong, so I gave it one more go this morning. If rashidi1 doesn't receive it this time I shall give up all hope and throw myself off the top of our wardrobe. Kind regards.
Thanks Barnzy,for your kind offer. I put my tactics positioning in number of clicks so as to give accurately exactly where the players are. I think that saying a player is on "normal" means that that player is anywhere between 6 and 14 clicks. It does not give an accurate position.
However, as it is generally frowned upon to post tactical positions that way, rashidi1, very kindly suggested that I send them to him. For some reason, and I am sure that it is my fault, only his emails are returned as undeliverable.
Just out of interest, I have begun again. This time I'm attempting to use only the default in game player instructions amd concentrate on trying to sort something out with the team instructions.
I find it difficult to believe that the game cannot be played with some success unless you have multivarious alternative tactical options. I wonder if the answer lies in just managing the match by use of the closing down, defensive line and team mentality sliders.
I wonder also, that if you can get find the best passing and tempo for the type of players that you have, then that may be the way forward.
I am playing as Hull City. I use a 4-1-3-2 wide tactic. I have played four friendlies vs Chesterfield, won 3-0, Northampton, won, 1-0, Drogheda, drew 2-2. My last one was vs PSV. We lost 1-3. I played all those matches using only the default player positions and having only timewasting on low,[4]. all the other team setings were put onto normal, neutral, bang on the centre line or on 10, whichever you may prefer to call it. I did not alter anything during the whole of all the matches, just to see what would happen.
So based upon the PSV game I need to alter one or two of the team settings. All my players played within their settings and were not unduly embarrassed. Make what you will or can of my efforts,poor though they may be, they are all mine own. Kind regards.
That is a good point, Barnzy. I'm not sure whether or not that it may work in the following manner. If you apply a more attacking style of play by moving the team mentality slider by, say, two clicks. I now wonder if what happens is that the team as one unit will respond to your change. The players individually, will also respond but only in within their own mentality settings. This, so that they will not be found out of position. This is only my thoughts on the matter. But if individual mentality overules team mentality completely, then the team mentality slider becomes obselete and therefore unnecessary within the game. I'm sure that that is n't right, though.
oescus...you need to remove the words nospam from the email address you see in the profile.
..one other thing:
If you want to make an attacking tactic..remember that there are something like 6 notches ( I think) of attacking mentality.
Within this band 2 things are going to happen.
1. There is a slight positional effect. Meaning: Each player has a defensive line, so an attacking mentality positions him slightly more forward, this increases the distance he has to drop down to when he closes down.
So fullbacks for example..on attacking mentality..need to race back and ignore players before they start closing down.
2. Its a risk management tool. The higher you are on the scale, the more likely the player is to try an attacking pass or an attacking movement.
Making an attacking tactic:
1. If I set my defenders on defensive and my attackers on attacking will this work?
No not really. There is too much distance between the two so they will find it hard to pass balls to each other. In cases like this you may want to consider having a good strong player in the centre as a link, perhaps even have a couple of players on normal.
2. What are the best passing options for attacking play?
There is no rule for this. It depends on the players..if you have good players you can opt for very interesting passing patterns..such as triangles which are easy to pull off. Or you could have mixed passing...some on short, others on direct.
3. Are passing/tempo/width linked
To some extent yes..but not as much as mentality/closing down/defensive line. You see because passing can be set individually unlike defensive lines..its far more easier to handle. You can play a short passing game on slow tempo or a quick passing game on fast tempo.
Tempo is all about probing, finding space. So look at your players, if they have the abilities: concentration, passing, decision, off the ball; then you have the qualities needed to play various tempo styles.
I usually use quick tempo against teams better than me who are attacking me, and slow tempo against defensive sides intent on not losing to me.
What you need to do slowly is experiment..it takes time and trust me this game is simply too easy, especially now.

Huh isnt it the exact opposite that happens. The more attacking mentality you have the furhter up the pitch you are and therefore its less distance to close down on your opponent:
X (opponent)
/\
|| (closing down distance)
||
Y (you)
higher mentality = further up the pitch so less distance to close down on your opponent and deny him space.
More often than not the ball is in the middle of both teams...so higher positioned players need to drop back...you'll notice this when you are in the opposing half, your fullbacks are attacking and you lose the ball.
Incidentally no personal threads..Oescus you can start a thread if you have issues, and I'm sure they'll be people around to help.
