bRAzIL’s 4-3-3
After having some success with West Ham and recently NEC in Holland, I thought I’d post my tactic as there have been a few requests for ideas that make a 4-3-3 successful. I’m not claiming mine is going to work for all teams but I can only say that it has been a good solid tactic for me.
First of all here are a few hints/tips I try and adhere to, make of them what you will. Some of these are not my own so I hope others don’t mind me ‘stealing’ their thunder.
[b]Hints & Tips[b]
Mental stats rise with age and not training.
Forward runs are made when the player is not in possession of the ball.
Increasing tempo will increase the number of shots on target but decrease the quality of those shots.
And conversely, decreasing tempo will makes the quality of shots better but there will be less of them.
It takes 8months for a player to truly settle in, especially those from abroad.
Individual instructions override team ones (and Paul C has confirmed this), but changing the team one still makes your team play slightly deeper or higher up depending
imo.
Don’t use attacking & counter attack at the same time, it’s conflicting and pointless.
Never back off from a fast striker, close him down as soon as.
When creating a new tactic, if possible, do it when your team’s morale is v.good/superb, this way you know morale is not affecting it negatively.
4-3-3 Line up
The general idea is to go with 4 across the back, one ‘anchorman’ in midfield, a playmaker type alongside a hardworking ‘all-rounder’ in midfield, two wide forwards/wingers, and one Targetman who can head &hold up the ball.
Team instructions are fairly basic. I find I have the Time wasting set to the perfect notch.
Team Instructions GK
The only thing to mention here is that the GK is instructed to distribute to the DL.
DR/DL
Both DR and DL have the same instructions. I found my DL had 8-9 assists per season due to him receiving the ball from then GK and directing long diagonal balls to my Targetman.
DC
I like my DC to man mark and have a defensive mentality; I want them to be solid.
DMC
He is an important player, I find whoever plays here usually gets a good average rating, the do not do much apart from get back and help out in defence, the barrow is important and the number of times my DMC has saved my bacon against big teams!
MC (Right)
Hardworking player here, good teamwork, passing, stamina.
MC (Left)
I played Tevez here and he was amazing, gets forward and latches on to any flick ons from my Targetman, will score a lot of goals if good at long shots especially. Tevez scores some superb long range curlers! Can afford to gamble and get into the box as he has a DMC and a hardworking MC to help out in defence. This is the teams playmaker so to speak.
AML/ST
Here I have played winger and strikers and had success, they are there to close down the opponents and win the second balls from the Targetman, then the idea is that they dribble to the byline and whip in balls for my Targetman and AMC arriving late in the box, always get plenty of assists for me.
AMR/ST
As above really, set run with ball often if your player is a dribbler
Targetman
Here is the key player, wins headers, flick-ons, the link between midfield and attack, gets bags of goals and creates lots of chances, if he plays well you win – end of!
End of First Season
I only just missed out on winning the
Prem, but I did no tweaking home or away for this tactic, I set assistant manager to handle team talks (Sammy Lee is god at this). I think I could have won it easily with a few tweaks however, especially later on in games when the opponents switch to 4-2-2, all though I think this tactic counters that pretty well.
Second Season Table so far
Going well in my second season so seams to be a durable tactic, time will tell I suppose.
I have uploaded the tactic if anyone wishes to try, any feedback welcome.

I also tied this out for half a season with NEC and easily am escaping relegation.
Result with NEC
[b]Summary[b]
I based my tactic initially on Bolton’s style of play from last year, with the team set up around the Targetman and closing down high up the pitch. I’d be interested to see if other people have any success with this, especially a team like Chelsea with Drogba as the Targetman and Lampard running on. I may try this out when I get round to it.
