Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Well so far so good, i HAVE made a few tweaks to the basic formation, given the wide forwards a fixed and med/high CF and taken their LS away, given the more defensive mid a Barrow, FBs slightly more attacking, 2 clicks higher CD and Farrows (i like arrows), slightly lower tempo (2 clicks i think) and i'm toying with moving the MC with Farrow to AMC with no arrows.
It sounds like a lot of changes but having played the formation as it was made by www2 its really only a slight tweak to the way it plays.
So far i must say things are going well, my Plymouth team have got some good results in their 1st premiership season and are performing above expectations (even mine). My Man U team are doing what they should and winning everything (only 1/2 way through season but so far, so good) and my PSV team are playing well and are scoring for fun. I've found that the changes I've made, particularly taking the LS off of the wing forwards means we are creating good percentage chances and are therefore getting a lot of shots on target, i like this. The defense seems to be pretty solid with most of the goals we're conceding coming in the form of individual mistakes or set pieces which i would not attribute to any fault in the tactic and come under the heading of "**** happens" as far as I'm concerned. The only exception to this was a tenancy for my full backs to not close down wingers enough leaving us too open to crosses, this is the reason for the slight upping of their mentality and closing down, so far it looks better.
The only real bugbear i have with it is ironically in the form of a lack of possession. In the case of my PSV team, who are playing well and have won almost all of their games, i vary rarely seem to have over 40% possession. When i check the action zones they normally add up to us having more like 50/50 possession and this isn't really an issue since we are most often having 10-15 shots on goal a game which more often than not sees us winning, it is however a bit annoying. It seems to me that oppo teams are spending a lot of time knocking the ball about in their own 1/3 and due to their defensive mentality which is understandable as PSV are almost always favorites in a dutch league game.
I don't really want to lower player mentalities or tempo or anything like that (remember i've lowered tempo slightly from the original already) as i like the flowing attacking football were playing, and most of the players are closing down fairly high up the pitch as it is and i definitely don't want to up that any more as it will see players being pulled all over the place and getting knackered. Can anyone see any way i haven't thought of to improve this area of the formation or do you reckon it's just something i'll have to live with, which as long as we are winning i won't have a problem with!

Anyway thats how it's going for me, KUTGW and lets keep this thread going!

Oh and GJ again www2!

A good AMC makes a difference but one important thing to highlight is if he's hopeless from outside the box cut back on the efforts from outside it. If his long shots aren't above 16 forget about it. I reset his running with the ball to often because mine is quite skillful. A good goal scoring winger is great e.g Ashley young or C Ronaldo, Heres my recent results

First game i won with 3-1 after been on a losingstreak this really felt nice. Wondering if this tactic works against better teams away also? Thank you www2, you're the best!

This is one the most solid system I have ever played. I am playing a network game with one of my mates. I am playing as Real Madrid and he as Barcelona. We finished the season and he was in 1st place with 93 points and me with 90. I should never have lost had second place.

38 games 27 wins 9 draws 2 deafeats (away to barca 1-0 and away to Athletico Madrid 1-0). I scored 85 goals and conceded 12!!! From november to april I conceded one goal and it was an own goal.

I really cant understand how the hell I didnt win the league, I slaughtered Barcelona 5-1 at home.
As for stats, Mascherano and Pirlo had 95% and 96% passing completion.

My lineup was:
GK:Casillas
DR:Ramos- DC:Mertesacker - DC:Garay - DL:Marcelo
MCd: Mascherano - MCaSilva - MCirlo
AMR: Robben/Ribery AML:Robinho/Robben
FC: Palacio/Raúl

The opposition rarely had more then 10 shots at goal a game, I usually had 20-30, I dont know how many times the goalkeeper went into super mode for the opposition.
But really what stands out in this tactic is the defense, Casillas had 28 clean sheets in 38 games in the league!
If it wasnt for super Henry and super Eto'o (they had both 22 goals in the league) I would have ruled the division

How are you guys doing for possession though? Are you finding your dominating and controlling the game or are you having the best of the shots but giving up lots of the ball to the oppo?

The second one

[quote]Whomever I use in the MC-AMC position seems to play appallingly. They take huge numbers of inneffectual long shots.[\quote]

Yeah I find that with Del Piero (my AMC), execpt that sometimes he scores some truly brilliant goals. I find however that he does not really help in the link-up play or the passing moves - he just takes shots as soon as he gets the ball.
