Playing as Arsenal(dont support them, just wanted an easy game till Official Patch is released) i have been using a 4-3-1-2 formation of a tactic that i have d/loaded and tweaked, with the idea being to create a whole host of good chances, whilst allowing the opposition few efforts?.

I seem to have done that, as in 90%+ games this is exactly what is happening, but the problem is that it is having little effect on results?.

The mentality slider is set right in the middle and the defensive line slider just two clicks right of deep, the tempo slider is just one click right of slow too, this is so you understand this is not some crazy "All out attack" set up that has no chance of success?.

I have played 12 Premier League games so far and will post the first 10 screenshots from those games.

I have in fact uploaded a similar thread on the Bugs Forum, but have been given no solid answer as to whether this is an actual Bug or not?.

The last thing i want to mention is that i'm playing the game with the Updated Beta Patch.

Do you use the "Counter Attack" work-around? Setting CA seems to reduce the prevalence of these sorts of games.

Also using All Out Attack for any players other than the ST will result in shots being taken by players whose primary skills make them poor goal scorers.

I'll certainly give the Counter Attack option a go, but none of my players are set to "All out attack" mentality wise?.

I am hoping beyond hope that this is a Bug problem more than anything else, otherwise the game will simply be unplayable?.

what is this counter attack workaround, is it another bug i dont know about?

i have a similar problem but am playing as reading, took over when they were bottom at xmas and now up to 15th. i am the better side in most games but put down the goals against and lack of goals for due to the fact that my players arent good enough to put it in the net/keep it out the net, yet my tactic is good enough to create the chances in the firstplace.

incidentally, my strikers are now scoring, form plays a big part for strikers i think. as i said i was bottom so morale was low but now they are on a roll its not so bad.

These are the last two games i'd already played, morale was still good amongst the players, i imagine because performances are very high despite the results?.

I tried ticking Counter Attack in the next game, but all it seemed to do was reduce our own shot tally?.

Are you actually watching the games as they are being played? I've already learned that you must do so under "extended" highlights or the full game (I do so with the highest match play speed). There's a lot of stuff you miss when you don't do so.

I used to say the same things to myself about having a zillion shots/great possession and losing until you actually start caring about the itty bitty details in the tactics. I don't go that crazy over it, but building tactics to highlight your player's strenghths is KEY. You can't just have one be-all end-all tactic and expect wonders and definitely can't plug and play players into the slots. Yeah, if my best eleven are healthy and match fit, I don't need to tweak much, but substitute a slower winger where I'm used to having a quick one, I'm dead in the water.

I think a lot of the fun in this game comes to experiencing the highs/lows and learning on your own (with forum help, sure). Just from your match stats, one thing stood out for me:

CROSSES COMPLETED of around 15%. I don't believe Arsenal have the cross/header type of scoring team (maybe only Adebayor as a lone ST set as a head target man with your team playing a heavy away tactic). Do you have your wingers/full backs set on Cross Often? This could easily produce a ton of chances with Arsenal and very little quality scoring opportunities.

I'm playing as Liverpool right now and my attacking height is not good unless Crouch is up top (Torres usually loses most headers when he's challenged). You know what I do when he's not in? I set all my players on Cross Rarely except for one or two guys with 16+ ability and put them on mixed. My typical crosses completed is 60-75% and they're usually quality opportunities.

I play as Atalanta, in my third season have just avoided relagation in the first two ones. I struggle to find any kind of continuity, I can beat Juventus 3-2 away in one game, and loose 4-0 to Empoli at home in the next. My players are not crap nor are they world class, but this is ridiculous....

No matter and I do mean no matter what I do, they cannot for the life of them score anything but a lucky punch. My midfielders or wingers cannot for the life of them provide an assist. Nearly all my goals so far this season is either a scuffle in the box, a penalty or from a corner.

I cannot remember when they last scored from a free kick. I dominate possesion, and have enough shots on goal to score at least one goal. My strikers miss chances that my dead granny could hit the back of the net with. If I read commentary that says "That was a sitter and he knows it" one more time I will take a sledge hammer to the game cd....

All of the above including the the images you provide just makes it sad. This game is royally screwed.

Now how do I get Paolucci to make a run on to a through ball, and how do I get Tissone, Sivok or Padoin play one.... ? Oh and by the way if and when he makes a run, how do I get him to score on the one on one with the keeper?

Have to admit I have the same problem, my opponents will score most of the time, it is just a matter of when. It is ok most of the time but sometimes you have a run of tight games that are vital games and this inability to convert chances is a killer, esp in the CL knock out rounds, because against Chelsea or Man Utd you need to take chances.

I'm glad someone has actually posted screens of this robbery. I agree, it's unplayable, no matter how many shots you have or how much you dominate possession, you will either score none or be lucky to score one. Meanwhile, the AI will have two shots all game and slot them away with no problem. It's just not right. I really hope this is a bug and that it's fixed in the patch otherwise FM 08 will be swiftly removed from my computer.
