Default How in a blue moon do you convert a CMYK file to 2 color??

Alright, so I'm a photoshop intermediate who's really used this fine program for making web images and a few other things. Now, I've gotten into print advertising at work (yeah, get me to do it rather than outsource it and then pay me a lot less for the effort...thanks).

My issue is that I can make ads in B&W or 4C, no problem. This issue comes when I want to do a 2 color ad using a specific color. In my naivety, I presumed using 2 colors in Photoshop and outputting to a CMYK TIFF would be sufficient. The printer has informed me otherwise.

Okay, so what I'm looking to do is to make certain layers (text headlines, part of a logo) in a specific red while the rest is B&W with shades of gray.

I've tried a few things with adjustment layers and duotoning...but I just can't seem to find an easy way to do this (or any way for that matter). [confused]

Oh, Photoshop Gurus...let me your wisdom...cheers and thanks, Dom. 8))

I guess the obvious question would be, what did your printer suggest you output to?

To be honest this is not an area I'm particularly familiar with but, at a guess from your comments, I would suggest you may need to look into Spot Colors.

Sorry I can't offer any further advice, but it really is something you need to discuss with your printer.
