Hello,
I have tried to get the startburst tutorial to work for me a few times now without any luck.
Photoshopgurus Photoshop Tutorials - Starburst Effect Tutorial
I am using Windows XP and Photoshop CS2 vs 9.02
All seems fine until Step 8
What I did a few times with no luck:
Step 1- no problems- Note he said to make a WHITE background layer
Step 2- made a new BLANK layer named it starburst
Step 3-5 all looks similar but not exact to his picture.
Step 6- rotated 90 CCW
Step 7 added the Polar filter
Step 8 part 1. When I hide my background layer it is similar but lacking all the black you see in his photo. HOwever my center is transparent so figure I am still ok up until this point
Step 8- part two. This is where it falls apart for me.
WITH the "starburst" layer selected I hit Cntrl-I which inverts that layer.
Next he states "Create a New Layer and fill the selection with white:.
Q1: I created a new blank layer filled with white and it is placed above the inversted starburst layer. Does he mean something else?
He then asks us to "Now fill the Background layer with black. And you can now delete the original black layer with the transparent starburst on it; the one we started with."
Q2: So I am now filling the background layer that was white now black? WHAT IS the Original black layer with the starburst on it? I do not see any black layers.
I thought the orginal "starburst layer" we inverted? Where is the black layer? When I inverted the starburst layer it was visually disappeared when the white background layer was visible. So no black was there after it was inverted. Was it supposed to be duplicated in a new layer then inverted? Something seems to be missing in the instructions.
"You can now also give your new white starburst layer a proper name - "starburst"."
Q: From above I assume that someplace the starburst is duplicated but can not see where. If I delete the "starburst" layer which in mine is inverted, I do not have any startburst left.
OK so is this because I am using CS2 or am I missing something?
Any help would be appreciated.
The goal is to make a few small starburts to put on some text for an ad. Sortof like the company name has some sparkle.
If there is a better way to do this than this tutorial that I am not having luck with, please let me know.
Thanks
