Default Isolating an object to use.

Hi, I have version 9.02 of Photoshop. I want to open a photo with a cat in the photo (a furry one) and somehow cut it out with the detail of the fur still there to use in another new layer I want to make up. So that I can have a black background with my cats in it like this one below.

Filter > Extract.. Draw round the cat leaving bit of background then fill it (still in extract) press ok or whatever then Zoom in 500% and Carefully use Polygonal Lasso to cut round the fur... Then hay presto .... If it dont work then I dont know... Request a cut.. but I doubt anyone around here would like to waste there time cutting a cat (No Offense)
