Sir Alex Ferguson. He is possibly the most famous manager of all time, and many regard him as the best. Mentioning his name, be it to a Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool fan commands alot of respect.
When he eventually retires (in the next 4/5 years) I can almost guarutee that for the season afterwards the country will witness the most significant breakdown of a major football club. The players discipline will go (Rooney in particular) and players such as Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo will leave the club. The players who remain will be unable to perform without Sir Alex to pick them up and set them straight whenever they loose form, and league positions will start to slip.
Sir Alex runs that club, and all of the success of what has become the most famous club in the world, rests entirely on his shoulders.
I am deeply worried about the consequences of Fergie retiring. How can you possible continue running a club when your manager after 20 odd years has retired? It will be tough without Fergie, but will we breakdown? Not a chance. The players who will be in the squad at that time will know that they need to pull their acts together and that it will only be a transitional period until they get used to a new manager. But nobody will ever be able to top the progress Sir Alex made with the club.
unlikely as fergie is declining if you haven't noticed and it will get to a point were the next person is equal to him. It will be tough but whoever it is? will still have a extremly tough job on their hands
