Default Images from a digital camera

Hey folks!

I just got a new digital camera today (Canon Powershot Pro1). Can someone either explain to me, or point me to a good source that explains print resoultion?

My camera is 8 megapixel and I'd like to be able to print some of my images after doing some minor adjustments to the images. I have never had to print from photoshop and want the best quality possibe.

Thanks!

First: get yourself a good printer, prefereably with at least 6 inks (CMYK and Photo Cyan and Magenta or so)

Second: When you take a pic, use RAW format

Third: Photoshop or your monitor or your OS don't give a (censored) for resolution: you just get a file of X pixels wide, and Y pixels high. So set your Image Size to 300 dpi.

And when you have calibrated your hardware (do a search on this, it has been explained a zillion times) set your prefs to AdobeRGB and print.

Default Thanks Erik

I'm glad it was you who responded. I was actually reading one of your tutorials today and thought \:] "Geez, this guy knows a lot about the technical side of photography and color managment!" :B

I appreciate your help and look forward to a lot of fun with my camera.

Just to avoid the eventual SNAFU... don't forget to keep the files in RGB mode even to print, and when you send the print, turn off color management on the printer, just tell it to use the ICC profile from the software and pass it straight through, this helps to avoid any surprises from the printer second guessing what you want color to look like.

Make sure to get, and use the correct settings in the printer driver, for good quality paper too.

$0.02 good luck.
