Oh, I wasn't dissing you... I was making fun of myself because I linked to my own tutorial. hehe.

You don't have to just use plain clouds on a gradient... any blurry transition will cause the lighting lines to appear. Try with text or shapes. Try wrapping it around an object. Try animating it around an object.

All sorts of fun stuff you can do.

Wasn't this a challenge thread over at PST at one point? We should start a new challenge here... "fun with lightning".
