I'm new to c4d have been playing around with it for a little while but theres one effect i noticed that really caught my attention theres this sort of texture which looks like something being looked at under a microscope. Here's an example of what im talking about http://geek.tunebsd.com/bgs/septrotrichia_buccalis . I'm not sure if this picture was made with c4d but im sure the effect can be accomplished with it. If someone could help me with the texture it would be greatly appreciated
displacement: the texture distorts the original shapes
glow or luminance, or both

which version do you use? If you don't have the Smells like Allmonds shaders (the free version of V6 that is), I'll look for a way around, but if you do have them, a first step would be to try out the 3D shader "Cheen". I'll post more soon.
I have version 8.5 and i tried playing around with the cheen shader but just cant get anywhere close. I am also new to cinema 4d and for some reason while im using cheen i cant use glow?? no idea why theres no option for glow when i go to basic on the texture.
I found a microscopic texture that came with the program. the texture seems like it'll work if i just change the colours. now i have another question how can i make cylinders which are like squiggly lines. Basically not perfect cylinders more like lines which are 3d??
