Well I've been saying this since he was at Parma and then back at Juve. He wasn't given enough of a chance by Capello on the position he was most natural on (striker). As a result, he opted to move to Fiorentina this summer and be coached by Prandelli, who is a manager than knows how to manage Adi.
What came of this?
Adrian Mutu goals this season: 16
Adiran Mutu assists this season: 10
Top scorer of Serie A: Toni (18 goals)
Top assister of Serie A: Mutu (10)
Gazetta Dello Sport averaged their per game ratings for the whole season, and these were their standings:
1) Adrian Mutu: 6.58
2) Dejan Stankovici: 6.55
3) Marco Materazzi: 6.50
Rai Uno studied the per game ratings given all season by 3 major sport newspapers and 4 major general interest newspapers in italy and made their own rankings for the season. The results:
1) Adrian Mutu: 6.50
2) Zlatan Ibrahimovic: 6.48
3) Marco Materazzi: 6.43
Like I said, I've been telling everyone this for a long time now. He was the best in Serie A when he was at Parma, he was the best in the Premiership when he went to Chelsea until he went crazy and took druggs, and then he is the best at Fiorentina now.
The last two FULL seasons he has played, he has been the best player in the league. And once again, he shows he is better than any other striker by scoring and also assisting.
Another thing to note, Totti had 3 goals from penalties. Mutu has one goal from a penalty (since Toni usually takes them). In retrospect, in terms of goals scored from action in the game, they are tied for top scorers of Serie A. Even with these great performaces, I doubt he will be considered as a candidate for any of the major prizes that exist to recognize players. It's a shame. But I can't wait till Euro 2008 finals so everyone can see him rip Europe apart.
I agree with most of what you said, but I don't think he will rip Europe apart for the simple reason that Romania hasn't got the quality other teams have got and in the Euro 2008, there would be less average teams then there are in the Italian league which means less lax defense. It's the team that creates everything and the striker finishes them off.
Don't get me wrong, I think he is one of the best players in the world and it's a shame he isn't playing for a bigger club but I believe that now that Toni is gone, he would be more of a center stage at Fiorentina and will finally get the praise he deserves. He doesn't only score tap-ins like Toni does, but creates and scores great goals from very difficult angles as well. I also rate him more than Totti as a goal scorer and as a player, although his conduct will now forever be damaged, on the pitch it's better than that of Totti which makes him a good role-model (leaving out the drugs problem) especially for becoming such a great player from a country that has talent but doesn't really promote it well because lack of ambition in sport and lack of money
Well I really think you'll be impressed by Romania at Euro. We haven't lost yet in qualifications and we were so close to beating Holland.
In our last games against big teams these have been the results:
Holland 0-0 Romania
Spain 0-1 Romania
Czech Republic 0-2 Romania
We are going to play Germany in September in a friendly game and then Holland again in qualifiers. If we win the double against Slovenia coming up this week, we will be first place in the group and then if we tie/beat Holland we are qualified for Euro 2008.
A lot of people underestimate Romania because we have not been qualifying for major tournaments in the recent past. But watch us play and you'll be impressed by the free-flowing and pace and posession of our game. We play very very western european style football - which is sometimes the reason we lose. Other eastern european teams shut down and play heavy defense to compensate for lack of skilled players. We don't. So just watch for us and it would add more variety to the usual results if we do well in Euro 2008.
And as for Mutu, with Toni there or not there, it is the same really. He completely overshadowed Toni this season after Toni was the italian league highlight last season. Fiorentina were ready to let Toni go because Pazzini has been showing amazing promise and skill this season. So I think Mutu with Fiorentina will make a top 3 finish next season in Serie A and bring back some glory to Firenze. It's the correct environment for him I think.
slovenia will win tomorow against romania.100% sure.
You won't. You beat us when the old guys were retiring and the young guys were too young to make a difference. The only teams I am worried about now are Holland and Belarus. Belarus is playing really well right now and Holland is always strong. Bulgaria is decent, and with the new manager they will play a nicer game from what I've seen with Sweden. However, their more attacking mentality now leaves them more open and we can very very easily exploit that. Mutu-Marica-Mazilu/Zicu .. it's not going to be tough.
Quote:
pah, he's only good cos he's on drugs.
im bitter about him cos i wasted good money getting his name printed on my chelsea shirt about 3 seasons ago. good player.
I need to get me some of those drugs then.. if it makes me play like he is now. :o
Well, just die the shirt purple and it will be fine. I'm sure you can buy a Fiorentina logo on ebay for cheap, just replace the chelsea one.
Great game for us.. and Slovenia have a very very good goalkeeper.
To Vuk4:
I'd like to say that Slovenia impressed me again also. They played a really tough game for us. Gabriel Tamas (the scorer of the first goal) said that the Slovenia match was tougher than the one against Holland because of the intensity of the Slovenians. Better team won, but good show of heart.
