Would you like to be 'Football Agent' for a day ? Make your million(s) and then live in luxury off of the one deal ?
Wouldn't we all !
I am not sure you need any qualifications. I am not sure you need to have any real skills other than to be able to convince a player to move from his club for a better wage etc and then get your cut.
Of course this is unfair to the 'whiter than white' agent who works his socks off to ensure his player get what he wants. But come on these people are generally perceived as 'Wide Boy ' leeches, taking millions out of the game.
Now ,on the other hand, no one is expecting a 17 year old to be able to negotiate his own transfer deal or first professional contract, faced with the suits to intimidate him.
But surely it is time that the PFA and other Players Unions across the world should be appointed sole representatives for players in transfer deals at fixed rates based on criteria involving the complexity of the case. Leave the agents to sort out commercial deals with sponsors etc and leave them out of transfer deals with a nice little earner of 10 per cent of the fee. Do you really deserve two and a half million pound for selling Shevchenko to Chelsea ?
And then possibly another million or so for selling him back ?
Football agents please let us know how tough your job is compared to selling cars or pulling pints ...
Spot on.
The PFA could easily represent the players in transfers.
You can't blame agents for screwing football if they're allowed but you wouldn't trust one to water your plants when you're on holiday.
Why have the unions involved with the deals?
It would just inflate the egos of idiots like Gordon Taylor and Gary Neville. Next thing you know they're calling for doubled salaries or every player goes on strike.
Just use lawyers who know contract law and who, if they get caught doing something dodgy, face losing their careers.
Players could get advice from an agent before a meeting as to what deal they want, but only the player and lawyer could discuss terms with the club.
