You have 2 ways I can think of for color for the stand out from the background area. You can go with an orangish color wihich will be complimentary to the blue, you can use a blueish purple color, you can also make a grey of both which just means take an orange color and fill a layer, then take a blue and do the same, reduce the blue to 50% over the orange and sample the mix,it gives you a grey of the 2 colors, perfect for painting shadows.
For the outer border fill color load your text selection and on a layer under it fill this layer with your color of choice, now use filter > other > minimum and crank the slider to see how many pixels you like expanding from the edge.
If you decide to go with the extruded type look something I do is again load your text, fill an under layer again with a darkish blue or grey, nudge the layer back a couple of pixels and you have your shadow. You can also create a highlight for the front of the text by putting a new layer overtop, fill it with the yellow, move forward until it sits 1 - 2 pixels in front of your text, load your text {original text} again and mask the rest of your yellow layer, this should give you an embossed type effect
