Default Photoshop CS

I got another "problem" that keeps showing it's ugly head in CS. All of a sudden when I;m working on an image and select the Clone Stamp tool for example (it's actually most tools) the brush will no longer be a brush but a cursor that looks like a small horizontal line with arrows at each end. There is not way to get out of this but to restart The machine. Even restarting PS doesn't work.

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong in CS or is this a bug?

Thanks

Edit > Preferences > Display & Cursors > Brush size
that ought to do the trick :B

Thanks, Nitro. I'll keep you posted if that works the next time it happens.

For your information; there was only one update, v7.01 and that one was mostly focused on a the file browser that seemed to be slow on some systems. There was however no problem with the editor being slow. You give people the impression as if Adobe is releasing patch after patch after patch... and that's definitely not true.

And that update option in Photoshop is useless. It will check for more than a year to see if this single update is available... just a waste of time and bandwidth. The whole world knows it when Adobe releases an update for Photoshop

Update. CS did it to me again and when I tried Edit>Pref>Brush Size your suggestion didn't work, Nitro. This must be something else as it happens all too often lately.

Thanks anyway, buddy

Lee, you should delete your preferences. From your description, this is the resize window cursor that you get... something like <-+-> , right?

Make sure that, if you have a Wacom tablet, and are using themouse that you don't have the pen lying on the sensitive area of the tablet...

Lee .. I guess you checked your "caps lock" , if it's on it will effect 'cursor' (aka brush etc) .... restarting PS doesn't resolve "caps lock" if it is on .... but reboot does 'cos the "caps lock" would normally be set at off in the bios

sPECtre,
Yeah, that is exactly what it looks like and it has a mind of it's own apparently as it just comes on for no reason (unless somehow I accidentally toggle it on somehow). Unfortunately, once it's there, it's there and I have to restart. I'll check your solution. Thanks, bro. [righton]

Namvet,
Thanks for the heads-up but, unfortunately, it's not the caps lock. That would be too easy Thanks for the input though.

You could also try to update your videocard drivers.
If it doesn not work, post your system description (os, processor, videocard, etc... I found another thread with similar symptoms, on a Macintosh: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/w...k.10@.2ccfc829

found the perfect thread!! [righton]

I am new to both PS-CS and SuperBlade Pro, love 'em both but boy does PS-CS drag it's 'you-know-what' starting up!! I have PS 7 too but only for a little while and when I finally got PS-CS I was SO excited and then I just sat there and sat there and sat there and then finally it loaded up. What ever patch they had for PS 7 they need to do something similar here!! ICK!!

Lee, in regards to SBP I had an issue where the plugin was not invoking at all, did not crash PS-CS but it just gave me an error. So I wrote to Tech Support for SBP and they wrote me right back. You might want to try this.

In Documents and Settings/User Folder Name/Local Settings/Temp look for a file named: SuperBlade cached settings 6 (yours might end with a different number) and delete that puppy. Restart PS-CS and try the plugin now. Worked for me, hope it works for you!

Anyway, back to the issue at hand.... No one is having slow as molassas start ups?? Man thank GOD I always have email to read and respond too it's a saving grace to not sit there and wait like that, SHEESH!! \:]
